It's ok Milena I can wait for response
You know, I never forget that you'd translated that song for me and led me to their music. I'm always thankful for that.

Now, I just want to share with you some of my 90's obsessions, and I hope you'll find them interesting:

    Sertab
    Erener - Sevdam Ağlıyor (1994)

    Candan Erçetin - Yalan (1996)

    Sezen
Aksu - Ne Kavgam Bitti Ne Sevdam (1991)

I'm seriously listening to rap. Well, maybe I'm obsessed with this song coz my neighbor plays it loudly EVERYDAY at same hour.

Sagopa Kajmer - Ben Hüsrana Komşuyum

This song's music is killing me. (And perfect lyrics, as always.)

Emre Aydın - Ve Gülümse Şimdi (Bebeğim)

Milena- Good that you are seriously listening to rap! Too many people say they don't like rap, without ever listening to decent rap music. I had never heard Ben Hüsrana Komşuyum. I think I like that even more than Bir Dizi Iz. It's really good. So I will be awaiting your translation.

As for Ve Gülümse Şimdi, I think you already know I love it. And if you didn't, Viva did. (I just recommended this song to her a bit ago for perfect lyrics.)

Veryclever..will you explain now the connection between Tori's and Badem's songs?

Actually in this case I prefer to say "I'm listening to Sagopa Kajmer". I'm glad you liked the song. Those lyrics seem "translatable", I will try for you (and send by PM) just because he's my fellow-townsman.

So, it's the time for explanation

You know the song is about all the things that we believe they're precious for us. For Tori, however it's about religion beliefs, social conventions, prejudices, etc.

When in this song, she talks about 'breaking their hold over herself", she means those traditions in her family's traditional Christianity that irritated her through her life. Though you can refer them to the social conventions. Those conventions that affected her life (and our lives for sure) in her childhood and adolescence.

You know, this song attacks everything precious, better to say holy, around us, and at the same time you can't criticize its composer, cuz you feel empathy with her.

I think, Badem's song at the same time attacks those conventions but represents it in the "Alienation of the artist" style, cuz certainly the society won't accept it in its raw form.

    Too much said, sorry

Here's my obsession at the moment. It's my "female empowerment" song. I wouldn't usually directly request this, but I'm sincerely asking for you to listen (particularly Milena, I'd like to know what you think of this song. And I know the last thing you need is another new song to listen to, but please. ) I love the melody, the guitar, and the lyrics are pretty interesting, funny, and unique. (This video is giving me Peter Gabriel flashbacks.)

Here's some of the lyrics with translation for those of us whose Turkish could use a little more time cooking.

Oryantalden bıkmadın mı// Haven't you had enough of the the Oryantal (dance)?
Titretmekten yorulmadın mı// Aren't you tired of shaking?
Aynı telden sıkılmadın mı//Aren't you bored of the same melody?

Para sıkıştırdı babam sana// My father slipped you some money
Onları bana versene// Give them back to me
Geriden yürüdün kaç asır// you're behind me (I think this could be translated more exactly but I don't know how)
Artık kendine gelsene// Behave yourself now
Ama ne sen suclu ne annen// But it's not your fault, nor your mother's
Ne de ben suçluyum ne annem// Nor is it my fault or my mothers

P.S. Veryclever, I like what you said in your explanation, but to be honest, it's hard for me to understand Badem's song the way you do and its connection with Tori's song. Badem's is a really good song, but to me it seems just like a sad love song.

partizanka, I know this song. It's very interesting, lyrics are funny indeed. And I'm soooo bored of oryantal. (I hate belly dance!)

(Geriden yürüdün kaç asır // You've walked behind for ages)

Did you know she's a famous DJ? (just like vocalist of Malt.)

Cool that you knew this song already! I interpret it as a sort of humorous criticism of traditional male/female relationships. I like the line about it not being anyone's fault exactly. It's just the way it's been but at the same time, aren't we tired of it?

I also really like this: Sen memelerimizi çaldın...It's an interesting way to express her idea.

I had no idea she was a DJ. That's really cool. (Also didn't know about Malt's singer.) I really love her album; I'll probably be posting some of her lyrics as a request soon. Because the parts I understand I generally find very interesting and different.

I think I'm obsessed with this thread Milena
Nice infos are shared here about Ayça Şen, I love her music
She always use satires in her lyrics

These days I'm obsessed with this song and I can't get enough of it
(I think I've listened to it 20 times in one day)

It's from her 2002 album, "Sade ve Sadece"
What a song it is, what a melody, what a voice

I didn't love her so much, but after listening to this song, I began to feel like adoring her. I'm trying to translate it and post it in the forum, but before that time, take a look at it:

    Kalbine hakkını verdim
    Gül dedin yollara serdim
    Keyfini başkası sürdü
    Affedersem namerdim

    Belli ki şansım dönecek
    Aşk dolu günler gelecek
    Ümidi kesmedi kalbim
    Biliyorum sevilecek

    Senden uzakta yalnızım aşk
    Alay ediyorlar gülüyorlar
    Karşıma öyle birini çıkar
    Sen yaparsın biliyorlar

Wow, I had no idea that Ayça Şen was at all popular. I'm very happy that you've heard her, too. I didn't know she had another album besides Astronot. How many does she have? I've looked for more from her than that album, but I've never found. If you know where I can find some of her other albums/songs, please let me know. I'd really appreciate that.
I'm happy to hear the song you posted in the meantime.

As far as I know, she had only one album which was released in 2009, named Astronot, as you said. That album consists of 11 songs.

I've some interesting infos about her:

She was working in these radio and TV channels: NTV, Number One TV,Virgin Radio,.... She also wrote in these magazines and newspapers: Tempo Dergisi, Radikal,...

    P.S.
I've edited the link for Gülben Ergen's song. Enjoy it
