Default Solved: 80's pop song about sailing

My father says there was a radio song in the mid 1980]s that was a story about a man sailing in the hopes of finding his girl. After he finds her they settle down and have five children.
It was sung in first person
    Had these words
I'll bring you pearls all the way from China
I'll bring you an ivory fan
I'll bring you the finest gold

From Tierra Del Fuego to the Oklahoma Bay
I sailed the world but I never found my girl till I saw her standing in the sand

now with five little girls I found my string of pearls
when I come home they sing to me
bring me pearls from the sea of China
    bring me an ivory fan
tell me bout your home in North Carolina

Someone must know it. I would love to to find it for him.

Search Pearls and you shouldn't get Pearl Jam. Song title could be that or My Pearl or Bring Me Pearls. Put quotes to avoid Pearl Jam.

There was a 45 single released by John Rowles titled 'Pearls' in 1985 (New Zealand)

I can't find any song clips or lyrics to confirm this song.

This link confirmed Dan's find. Everything you need is on the page (need I say more...). Your father has a great memory, very close to the actual lyrics.

    Now and Then

    Nice one Dan!

Thanks a heap Dan and BlueNileFan! I downloaded the song and he is so happy to hear it again. If he could he would bring you pearls from the sea of China.

I'm so glad this was found!! I remembered this song from back in the '80's I'm sure and it was performed on an episode of Austin City Limits. Mr.Rowles was on with the guys who wrote "Coward of the County" It's funny because I'm not a country music fan but for around 20 years or so I could quote the chorus to this song word for word. Thanks again!
