I inherited this song on a minidisc and have no idea of the artist, but guessing the band is American or Canadian. Male vocalist, sweet harmonies, moderate hard pop rock, not heavy.
Searching on Google for snippets of lyrics has been fruitless for the one song in particular I'm writing about.
It's the last song on an MD that begins with Schlitz commercials, includes some Kenny Rogers and Aztec Two Step. The lyrics, I can't quite discern the first line of the chorus, go something like:
(Chorus)
Sweet [neva?] lightning
it's so damn frightening
so real, so wonderful, so nice
Sweet [neva?] lightning
the world is widening
c'mon now momma
we're gonna throw those dice
(End Chorus)
I know that it's crazy
a baby's a baby
and there's a million born everyday
but here we are stalling
when nature is calling
checking our emotional state
ooh, do we have the patience to give?
do we have the clearness of mind?
(Chorus)
Remember your mother
she was a trauma
how she used to get so upset
Remember your poppa
so upright and proper
there's so much now that he must regret
they tried to teach you their truth
but you couldn't feel it inside
(Chorus)
Now how will we reach him
what will we teach him
there's so much we don't comprehend
with all of our hoping
just settle for coping
or will our feelings meet in the end
I want to help him break through
but sometimes I just can't see the light
(Chorus)
[neva?] could be "never", "naval" or something similar, though nothing seems to make sense. In fact I'm not sure it's "sweet" either.
It's power pop, kind of Rolling Stones, Flaming Groovies, Elton John, Alex Chilton groove.
Anyway, to satisfy my musical curiosity, I'd sure appreciate an artist, song.
