    Merhaba,

Can anyone please post the lyrics in turkish to this song and the translation is possible, This is a classical Turkish piece, the original lyrics were written by Pir Sultan Abdal, a legendary Sufi poet of 16th century. Here is a link to the song on youtube sung by İlke TÜRKDOĞAN.

Ötme bülbül ötme şen değil bağım
Dost senin derdinden ben yana yana
    Tükendi fitilim eridi yağım
Dost senin derdinden ben yana yana

    Deryadan bölünmüş sellere döndüm
    Ateşi kararmış küllere döndüm
    Vakitsiz açılmış güllere döndüm
Dost senin derdinden ben yana yana

    Haberin duyarsın peyikler ile
    Yaramı sarsınlar şehidler ile
Kırk yıl dağda gezdim geyikler ile
Dost senin derdinden ben yana yana

    Abdal Pir Sultan'ım, doldum eksildim
    Yemeden içmeden sudan kesildim
    Zülfün kemendine kondum asıldım
Dost senin derdinden ben yana yana

don’t sing nightingale, don’t sing, for there’s no joy in my garden
i’m burning, my friend, from the pain you caused me
my wick was burnt out and no oil was left in my lamp
i’m burning, my friend, from the pain you caused me

i became like rivers separated from the sea
i became like ashes of an extinguished fire
i became like roses that bloomed before their time
i’m burning, my friend, from the pain you caused me

you’ll hear news about me through messengers
let them dress my wound together with (or, by) the martyrs
i've wandered with the wild deers in the mountains for forty years
i’m burning, my friend, from the pain you caused me

i, abdal pir sultan, waxed and waned
i was put off eating and drinking
i was put in your ear-locks and hanged
i’m burning, my friend, from the pain you caused me

    Merhaba ilkin ,

Dost senin derdinden ben yana yana
comrade/intimate,I am burning with your sadness (I am feeling your sadness in my heart more than you do))
    ve
don’t sing nightingale, do not sing, for there’s no merry in place

    beni mazur gor ,kusura bakma
    yanlisim varsa lutfen duzelt.

    Ahmet.

hi, Ahmet. sorry for being so late. i was just aware of the new posts in this thread through a pm.

my best guess is that here dost means ali, or his two sons, or all three of them, not a certain friend of him. it's the memory of their tragedy that is the cause of the poet's pains and inner burnings.

    thank you.

    ASIK59:

aygün is a proper male name, composed of ay the moon and gün the day.
enünlü seems to be a surname composed of en the most and ünlü famous.
