Default Baris Manco

Hi people. First let me introduce myself as im new to this forum. My name is Morten and I'm a 21 year old boy from Norway. I study medicine, music and languages are my biggest hobbies. I play various instruments but guitar is my main instrument. I do also play some turkish instruments like the darbuka and the kaval (however im not good at playing them yet). Anyway enough about me

I have recently been listening a lot to Baris Manco. I do however not understand turkish very well. Im looking for someone who has translation for some of his songs, or would be willing to translate some of them for me. Below is a list of my favorite songs. (i have searched the web for translations, but i havent found any) I'm not asking a single person to translate them all for me, that would be too much work, and i know that Baris Manco songs can be difficult to translate to english. However I would be very grateful if i got one/several of them translated .

Nazar Eyle
Ben Bilirim
Daglar Daglar
Hal hal
Gülpembe
Halil Ibrahim Sofrasina
Kezban

Oh and i believe in mutual exchange of services. So if anyone has something they want to have translated from Norwegian/Danish/Swedish to English, or have any questions regarding music/instruments. I would be more than happy to offer help in return

Hmm lets see. We are down to Kezban, Nazar eyle, Hal Hal and Halil Ibrahim Sofrasina. Using music to help learn words in a new language is much more fun than memorizing a list

Halil Ibrahim Sofrasina

Insanoglu haddin bilir kem söz söylemez iken
Human beings know their boundries, without being told.

Elalemin namusuna yan gözle bakmaz iken
They would never look at someones honour with a bad eye.

Bir sofra kurulmus ki Halil Ibrahim adina
This table is been set for Halil Ibrahim (Abraham)

Ortada bir tencere bos mu dolu mu bilen yok
In the middle of the table, theres is a pot that no one knows if its empty or not.

A Buyurun dostlar buyurun Halil Ibrahim Sofrasi'na
Welcome my friends, welcome to Halil Ibrahims table

Daha çatal biçak kasik icad edilmemisken
In the time, that forks, knives and spoons wernt invented.

Ismail'e inen koç kurban edilmemisken
Before the sheep was sacrificed for Ismail.*

Bir kavga baslamis ki nasip kismet ugruna
There is a fight over sharing?

Kapagi ver kulbu al, kurbani hiç soran yok
Take the lid, hold the pot, no one ask about the sacrifice.

Repeat A

Yillardir sürüp giden bir pay alma çabasi
Years pass while struggling for getting our share.

Topu topu bir dilim kuru ekmek kavgasi
And the thing they get from all their struggles is a peice of dried bread.

Bazen durur bakarim bu ibret tablosuna
Sometimes I stand and look at those examples that teaches you lessons.

Kimi tatli pesinde kimininse tuzu yok
Some people are looking for sweets while other people have no salt.

Buyurun dostlar buyurun Halil Ibrahim Sofrasi'na
Alni açik gözü toklar buyursunlar bas köseye
The one who have open foreheads and their eyes are satisfied come and sit at the head of the table.

Kula kulluk edenlerse ömür boyu tas dösege
If someone uses someone as a servant,They shall sleep on a stone for a bed.

Nefsine hakim olursan kurulursun tahtina
If you could control your desires, you could build your throne

Çalakasik saldirirsan ne çikarsa bahtina
If you put your spoon in the pot, and take it out without looking, anything you get is by chance.

Halat gibi bilegiyle yayla gibi yüregiyle
Çoluk çocuk geçindirip haram nedir bilmeyenler
They work night and day to feed their children, without thinking what Haram and Halal**

Buyurun siz de buyurun, buyurun dostlar buyurun
You come to, welcome, welcome my friends, welcome

Baris der her bir yani altin gümüs taç olsa
If a crown was made from silver or gold, its ment to say peace instead of war.
Dalkavuklar etrafinda el pençe divan dursa

Sapa kulpa kapaga itibar etme dostum
Dont count the lid, the handels or the pot

Içi bos tencerenin bu sofrada yeri yok
Theres no place on this table for an empty pot.***

Para pula ihtisama aldanip kanma dostum
Dont look at money and power

Içi bos insanlarin bu dünyada yeri yok
There is no place for heartless people in this world.

*The story about Abraham and his son Ismail - and the sacrifice of the sheep.
**In Islam, the right things according to the Quran are Halal and the wrong things are Haram
***Referring to empty heads

Morten: if a sentence is underlined then that means i didnt get it
sorry

I agree its easier to learn a language by listening to the song...
so sing away http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXoEFs3vRgU

And if theres any questions about the translation, dont hesitate to ask.
Ill try to do the other translations shortly

takecare

Morten, as my personal opinion, if you likes Barış Manco , you absolutly have to listen "Hayır" and " Can bedenden çıkmayınca"

For Hayır
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr1sy_X61hc

or better quality
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9hoS...eature=related

And Can bedenden cıkmayınca is in :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9hoS...eature=related

I hope you like it.

Ive never heard of kezban but my faveorite song has to be daglar daglar.
That song brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it.

What other turkish singers are you intrested in?

Thank you Lux_Aeterna, i have heard Can bedenden çıkmayınca, but not Hayir yet, i will definately check it out on my computer. I managed to get a hold of all the cd's baris manco has every published

xoNuraox: Wipe that sad smile of your face, you can listen to kezban here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcHixFuXZVM . Hmm i do not listen to a lot to turkish singers. I have hear some stuff by popular singers like Tarkan and nazan öncel. but when it comes to turkish music i mostly listen to instrumental music. Since i play a little darbuka and kaval (im not good though) . Here is an amazing clip of the turkish darbuka player Burhan Oca (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKg9q88PWmE) And one from kaval player Cihan Yurtcu (http://youtube.com/watch?v=AUcJh59mn4c) Also pretty amazing

Well trying to play darbuka would be more correct i guess . I have two turkish darbukas, but you have to practice a LOT to be good. Its easier on the egyptian darbuka (easier to do finger rolls) so im planning to buy one . Im glad you liked kezban, its actually the first Baris Manco song i ever heard. Thanks (again) for translating stuff. Its really nice of you . Yeah i know the chorus i supposed to be hard. I talked with another turkish friend of mine, and she told me that "Nazar eyle" is a very old expression you use if you "want to protect something good", like a blessing maybe? The modern expression should be something like "(aman) nazar değmesin" (according to my friend anyway). But hey i do not know turkish well, so what do i know? .

Hal Hal

Hal Hal, Hal Hal, / Anklets , anklets, anklets*
Hal Hal, Hal Hal,
Hal Hal, Hal Hal,

Akşam olup gün batınca / When the sun sets and the night starts
Dağlara hüzün çökünce / The mountains become sad
Lale sümbül boynun eğip / When the lillys figure bends**
Kurt kuzuya kem bakınca / When the wolf looks at the sheep in a bad way...

Köye döner nazo gelin / ..then Nazo the bride returns to the village

Chorus:
Yavru ceylan gibi kaçar, / She runs away like a baby gazelle
Seke seke çaydan geçer
Nazo gelin ayağına takar, Nazo the bride puts it (anklet) on her foot
Hal Hal Bir bakışı canlar yakar / Anklets, anklets, One look sets souls on fire
Gülüşüne cihan değer, / Her laughter is worth the world
Nazo gelin ayağına takar, / Nazo the bride puts it on her foot,
Hal Hal, / Anklets, anklets

Ayağşnda gümüş Halhal / On her foot she has silver, anklets, anklets
ınce nakış gümüş Halhal / thin patterned silver, anklets, anklets

(chorus)

Yedi köyün yiğitleri / seven young sheep
Ağaları ve beyleri / The masters and the leaders
Boşyere durmuş beklerler / Their waiting for no reason
Yaralıdır yürekleri/ Their hearts are cut

Gitti gelmez nazo gelin, / She left and shes never coming back, the bride Nazo

(chorus)

Ayağşnda gümüş Halhal
ınce nakış gümüş Halhal

*Anklets that jingle-that are used for bellydancing
**flower lilly, bends because it is almost dying

Kezban

Ateþ sadece düþtüðü yeri yakar nedir bu dünyanýn hali / Fire only burns the place it falls onto, what is that worlds state?
Bir sana bir bana al gülü ver gülü sev beni seveyim ki seni / One for you one for me, have a rose, give me a rose, love me so I can love you.

Dünyanýn hali böyle / This is the worlds state
Bir bakýþýn yeter düþerim yollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban / One look from you is enough to make me follow your roads, the worlds beautiful Kezban
Sarý sarý bileziði takarým kollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban / I will put very bright yellow bracelets on your arm, Worlds beautiful Kezban

Babasý yýllarca didinip çabalamýþ oðluna bir bað býrakmýþ / The dad has worked years and left a vineyard for his son.
Hayýrsýz evlat üzümünü yemiþ ama merak edip sormamýþ / Useless son has eaten all the grapes without asking any questions.

Dünyanýn hali böyle
Bir bakýþýn yeter düþerim yollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban
Sarý sarý bileziði takarým kollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban
Al gülü ver gülü Kezban al gülü ver gülü / Have a rose, give me a rose Kezban, Have a rose, give me a rose
Bir bakýþýn yeter düþerim yollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban
Sarý sarý bileziði takarým kollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban

abýna uyduran kervaný yükleyip yüksek daðlardan aþýrýr
Beceriksiz kiþi saða sola bakýnýp ta düz ovada yolunu þaþýrýr / Unskillful person has looked right and left, in the straight feild, He has confused his roads
Dünyanýn hali böyle
Bir bakýþýn yeter düþerim yollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban
Sarý sarý bileziði takarým kollarýna dünyalar güzeli Kezban

I used your advice
