Geia sou re paides ,
Could u help me , please ,with the translation of '' Ta Ladadika '' by Dmitris Mitropanos
Here are the lyrics of the song :
Thank you in advance .

Τα λαδάδικα
THE GREASY SITES
Στίχοι: Φίλιππος Γράψας (verse : Philippos Grapsas)
Μουσική: Μάριος Τόκας (music : Marios Tokas)
Σε συζητάν δίχως γιατί και όχι άδικα
"THEY" ARE "DISCUSSING" (TALKING ABOUT) YOU, WITHOUT REASON AND NOT UNJUSTLY
όπως κοιμάσαι στα στενά παλιά λαδάδικα
THE WAY YOU "SLEEP" IN NARROW, OLD GREASY SITES
έγινες φήμη και γι αυτό δε φυλακίζεσαι
YOU BECAME "RENOWNED" AND THAT IS WHY YOU ARE NOT IMPRISONED
ζεις στο σκοτάδι παστρικά μα δεν ορκίζεσαι
YOU LIVE IN DARKNESS "CLEANLY", BUT YOU DO NOT "VOW"
Λάμπεις στα κόκκινα σατέν που σε τυλίγουνε
YOU "SHINE" IN "RED SATIN" THAT ENFOLD YOU
άσπροι και σέρτικοι καπνοί σε καταπίνουνε
"WHITE" AND "STRONG" (TOBACCO) SMOKES ARE ENGULFING YOU
σε καλντερίμια ξενυχτάς υγρά λιθόστρωτα
ON FLAGSTONES YOU "STAY UP" (TILL ALL HOURS), COBBLED STREETS
στου πληρωμένου παραδείσου την αυλόπορτα
ON "PARADISE PAID", ITS GARDEN GATE
Τόσα δίνω πόσα θες
"I OFFER THIS MUCH, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT"
στα λαδάδικα πουλάν αυτό που θες
AT GREASY SITES, THEY "SELL" WHAT (IT IS) YOU WANT
κάθε κάμαρα κελί
EVERY "CHAMBER", A "CELL"
με βαριά παλικαρίσια αναπνοή
WITH (A) HEAVY, METTLESOME BREATH
Μύριες χαμένες μοναξιές με σένα σμίγανε
INNUMERABLE, LOST LONELINESSES, WITH (IN) YOU WERE MINGLING
φεύγαν καράβια μα πριν φύγουν σου σφυρίζανε
SHIPS WERE LEAVING BUT, BEFORE THEY LEAVE, (THEY) WERE HOOTING YOU
πόσα παιδιά ήρθαν να βρουν το αντριλίκι τους
HOW MANY KIDS CAME TO "FIND" THEIR "MANHOOD"
και σου ακουμπήσανε δειλά το χαρτζηλίκι τους
AND "REPOSED" ON YOU TIMIDLY, THEIR "POCKET MONEY"
Τόσα δίνω πόσα θες
"I OFFER THIS MUCH, HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT"
στα λαδάδικα πουλάν αυτό που θες
AT GREASY SITES, THEY "SELL" WHAT (IT IS) YOU WANT
κάθε κάμαρα κελί
EVERY "CHAMBER", A "CELL"
με βαριά παλικαρίσια αναπνοή
WITH (A) HEAVY, METTLESOME BREATH

Hey guys.
AZIM: Great Translation.
Here is my 2 cents on this:
I believe that by "Ladadika" Mitropanos is refering to a neighborhood in Thessaloniki where in the old days it was frequented by prostitutes (and it actually held many brothels).
Here is an article that describes "Ladadika" today and also makes a brief reference to the "old" Ladadika.

Hope this helps to better make sense of this song.
Cheers,
Sakis. -
yeap sakis all of what you said is true and if you go, know its full of clubs and bars and restaurants and whatever you want, in whichever colour you want(that's the part I didn't liked that much).
And practically the song talks entirely about the prostitutes of Ladadika and not of how Ladadika is today. And the days prostitutes were there are not so old (immagine that Mitropanos was if I'm not mistaken a teenager and he cannot be over 70) -

Hey Guys.
TZINA: Great points!!! It is essential to provide such information to better support the story that the singer/song writter is trying to say. Thank you for the insight

Which are the cities that make you feel this way ? :P -
I know the feeling....get the same when I am in Patras (my hometown). Now I am in Miami, USA. Hoping to be back for Pasxa
Where in France are you? I spent/worked about 6 months a couple of years ago in St. Nazair. Absolutely beautiful!!!
Be Well,

Great translation
except
Παλικαρίσια = young man's (laddish)
I agree that Λαδάδικα refers to the neighbourhood, and of course the song is about a prostitute.
It's one of my favourite songs! -

Re Azimut,
You are right. I originally read it as "meddlesome". Mettlesome is quite a nice word actually, too-rarely used which is too bad. Sorry for questioning your translation ability. But it's just not the same as the original when there doesn't exist the right word to stand in for palikarisia...anyway mettlesome is as good as it gets but you still need the image of a young man in there.

... some "tutoring" ...
...
...
I "heard" you the "first" time ... !!! LOL LOL LOL !!! ...
... "allow" me to "elaborate" this to you ... ... ...
παλικάρι - παλικάρια
noun
"dauntless", "valiant" "young lad/s"
παλικαρίσια
adjective (= a "word" that "qualifies" a "noun")
... "mettlesome"
in the "phrase" ... με βαριά παλικαρίσια αναπνοή ...
the "noun" that is "qualified" is ... "αναπνοή"
the "adjectives" that "qualify" the "noun" are ... "βαριά" and "παλικαρίσια"
therefore
WITH (A) HEAVY, METTLESOME BREATH
You "see" it now ... "perhaps" ... ?!? ...

Very good breakdown and analysis of the grammar. I'm too amateur to think about these details. I guess I was stubborn. What else do you expect from an ono?
