The one that can live in the sea and on the land and can't walk straight, quite delicious especially in salad, and would never let you go when it grabs you, hurts a little but doesn't kill, has a hard shell but a very soft meat (or I should rather say heart!!...![]()

Yes that's me..the crustacean..Well seems like I've woken up a bit..Ok get ready the student is about to ask a question!! It's about past tense..god!! It's so exciting..It's been ages I haven't asked anyone about tenses? Have been asked a hundred times though..Now it's time for revenge!! Sorry for I've made you the victim to my suppressed anger to my own students!! OK Sir, Can you tell me the difference between έβλεπα and είδα? I mean, I need some example sentences to figure out the difference in meaning? Here you go..
......
... "phyllis" mou, ...![]()
I am to, also, "say" ... Καληνύκτα !!! ... to you ... ... ... !!! ... ... ...
... ό,τι καλύτερο ...

... QUESTIONS !!! ... EXCELLENT !!! ... ... ...
... it is the ... "QUESTIONS" ... one "asks", that "make" the "difference" ... !!! ... ... ...
OK !!! ...
... "έβλεπα" ... is, "past continuous tense" ...
... "είδα" ... is, plain "past tense" ...
(... and, OFCOURSE, with example ... !!! ... *υ* ... !!! ...)
... "έβλεπα την τα μάτια της να σπυθιρίζουν από ενθουσιασμό" ...
... "είδα το Χάρο με τα μάτια μου" ...
(... a "Greekism" ... for an "experience" that whas been indeed VERY "freightening" ... !!! ... or, [as "Greeks go" !!!], ... for "emphasizing" the "dreadfulness factor" of "something" ... !!! ...)
... is "this" ... "εν-τάξει" ... ?!? ... ... ...
......

Eeerrr...almost εντάξει..I guess..The second sentence makes sense but the first one is rather unlear still. One; I can't find the meaning of σπυθιρίζουν! Two; I guess I need the English translation of that particular sentence to make a comparison. Because as far as I understand what Past Cont. refers to in English is not the same one in Greek...??? Have I been clear enough??
That's the last one then I'll let you go I promise..You know I'm the crustacean who would hardly let one go!!I'm harmless anyway..![]()
... "έβλεπα" ... is, "past continuous tense" ...
... "είδα" ... is, plain "past tense" ...
(... and, OFCOURSE, with example ... !!! ... *υ* ... !!! ...)
... "έβλεπα (την) τα μάτια της να σπυθιρίζουν από ενθουσιασμό" ...
(... η σπίθα = spark ...
... "σπυθιρίζω" ... to "sparkle" ...)
... therefore, the sentence in English would "read" as ...
... "I was watching (her), her eyes sparkle with (literally από=from) enthusiasm" ...
"εν-τάξη" (literally, "in order"), now ... ?!? ... ... ...

Ναι ναι Azimcim..Now it's OK and it's in order...What confuses me is that I sometimes see έβλεπα in sentences that give more like a "used to" meaning. I think I have misinterpreted those sentences..Azimcim you have been more than helpful tonight..Please accept my sincerest thanks..Now I may let you go without any harm!! Thank you so much..

... ... ... I AM TERRIBLY SORRY !!! ... ... ...
... probably too "tired" ... (and, ... obviously, TERRIBLE at "ορθογραφία" ... !!! ... this is EXTREMELY "bad" of me and your "first impression" !!! !!! !!! ... !!! !!! !! ... !!! !!! !!!)

... "έβλεπα (την) τα μάτια της να σπινθηρίζουν από ενθουσιασμό" ...
(... η σπίθα = spark ...
... "σπινθηρίζω" ... to "sparkle" ...)
... therefore, the sentence in English would "read" as ...
... "I was watching (her), her eyes sparkle with (literally από=from) enthusiasm" ...
... AGAIN, ... I am TERRIBLY "SORRY" for "messing it up" with your "understanding" ... !!! ... !!! ... !!! ... ... ...
