    Default Obscure song

I need help in identifying a song title and artist. I only have the lyrics now. There are:

Deep in the highlands there lived a shepherd man
Who loved his little daughter more than his Irish land
Day by day he set out to tend his sheep at dawn
And if one were to stray off he gently sang his song
    Chorus
Come home my child you’ve lost your way come home
I am your shepherd and I’ll take of you
Come home my child these arms they long for you
I am your shepherd and I’ll take care of you
Soon the day had come his precious child had grown
She longed to see the world and venture on her own
She set out for the city the shepherd now alone
Would oft lament his little lamb and sing his shepherds song
    Chorus
But hard times befell her and soon she lost her way
She took to the streets to earn a harlots pay
The shepherd left his hillside and searched the city long
But couldn’t find his precious child so he shouted his song
While sitting by a window she thought she heard a sound
That pulled hard her heart strings and so she ventured down
She gazed along the roadway as tears filled her eyes
The shepherd’s arms were opened wide
    As he sang his lullaby
    Chorus 2x’s
    Come home my child

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Default New Information

It was received as a gift in August 1997. It was a prerelease cassette from Lemstone Books in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. Not sure how old it was then. Sounded like a Celtic type song with a female singer. I was hoping it was one of yours as the cover had something to do with "Eden" on it. This song has a very special meaning for a really dear friend of mine. I would like to find another copy of it for her as her original was lost. The song was called the "Shepherd's Song" or something similar.

Searching with the information given I came upon a band called
West of Eden , they made an album in '97 with the same name.
    However no "Shepherd's song"on it.
Worth a try though , so here 's the link to their website where you can listen to samples .

    http://www.westofeden.com/

By the way ,regarding this 'Shepherd's song ' , it has been sung/done many times , but none of those fit the 'Celtic' theme , nor the year and "Eden "reference.

    Musicismyfirstlove,

Thanks for your help. I had already contacted West of Eden and they reply they had not ever heard of it. My friend described it as "Irish or Celtic" sounding. This may or may not be accurate. Any other suggestions?

    Hmm too bad .

I'm not too familiar with this kind of music , so I don't have much names to give you , except for Loreena Mc Kennitt.
Although she's American or Canadian she has that typical Celtic sound pat.
Maybe you could listen to her , she has her own website I believe..
Furthermore I 'd like to suggest that you try to find a Celtic/folk songs forum , the people who are into this kind of music have more knowledge I think..
Wish you good luck with the search..

    This is a GREAT song!

The song is entitled SHEPHERD'S SONG and it is written and performed by a group called DREAM OF EDEN on their album, INTO THE HERE AND NOW.

I bought four copies of the cassette tape, but I have been looking for a MP3 version for a while. Otherwise, I will try to digitize my track from the tape.

    Hope this helps!!!

    ccchhhrrriiisss,

Yes, that helps and I appreciate it more than you can know. That is the exact artist/song information I was seeking. I spent many hours online searching for it with no luck. I had about given up.

My friends original was also a cassette tape. I have found several copies on Ebay in a CD format. One of these may save you the trouble of digitizing your own.

I plan on presenting her with a copy for Chistmas. She will be thrilled! That song has a very special meaning for her as she sang it to her mother in church after a long and painful seperation.

    Thank you again so much!!!!

Thanks for the note! If possible, maybe I can get an email with the song? I love that song too...but it just isn't in stock anywhere.
Let me know...and I will send you my email address!
