I'm trying to learn slang. I'm from Cuba but grew up in the states... nowhere near the streets. I speak Spanish fluently but not street talk, just formal dialects. These street dialects do fascinate me as I try to figure out the root of how words are changed. For example, cotorra is a parrot in the original Spanish; I wonder how it "morphed" into how it is currently being used? I wonder if "vakeo" comes from "vaquero" which means "cowboy"? Just curious!
