Personally, I would use the verb 'estar' in this instance: "Anoche estuvo bien."

"Hoy es una dia por bailar y cantar."
The preposition here I would change to 'para': "Hoy es un día para bailar y cantar."

The rest looks perfect!

¡Está nevando mucho! No puedo ir a la casa de mi novia

That actually helped a lot. I never really learned the difference between preterite and imperfect. I was placed in a regular Spanish class last year at my school since I moved. I always just learned that preterite meant something happened and ended, whereas imperfect is it happened, but it also still occurs.
