would in Spanish is quisiera or in a question is podría:
I would like to open an account
Quisiera abrir una cuenta
I would like a bottle of whisky
Quisiera una botella de whisky
Would you please direct me to the post office?
¿Podría decirme cómo llegar a la oficina de correos?
Would you please get me a pillow?
¿Me podría dar una almohada, por favor?
the first love is gone ... am waiting for the last one!!
This use has to do with conditional sentences
1. If I was you I wouldn't do that
Si yo fuera (or fuese) tú no haría eso (Subjuntivo imperfecto + condicional)
2.If that happened I would've been mad
Si eso hubiese ocurrido me habria vuelto loco (Subjuntivo imperfecto compuesto + codicional compuesto)
