Balkan is the old name of the mountain that crosses Bulgaria horizontally. It's now called "Old Mountain". The name of the peninsula (Balkan peninsula) comes from the name of that mountain :P

Ами аз просто си изказах впечатленията,които отдавна имам от тях,както и от други техни съседи,примерно холандците... може и никога да не съм живяла там,но съм си общувала доста време с хора,които са родени и живеят в съответните държави и те са ми разказвали,че тази неграмотност за света около тях е масова...

И все пак .. не можеш напълно да се доверяваш на мнението на хора, докато не видиш със собствените си очи и не прецениш за себе си. Ето например, Луиз твърди, че англичаните са глупави, мързеливи, и тн., докато другият англичанин казва, че не са баш такива. Трети пък ще твърди, че са най-великите на света и знаят всичко.

А относно идеализирането, смятам, че всеки има правото да си решава какъв да бъде и какъв език да си говори. Това, че някой е роден в България не означава, че не може да се чувства и американец. А, когато отидеш да живееш завинаги в друга държава, рано или късно се асимилираш ти, или твоето семейство. А това става още по-бързо, ако се преместиш на млади години, защото младият човек се приспособява по-бързо.

Разбира се,че човек не може да съди само по разкази,но при мен тези разкази бяха потвърждение на това,което вече бях забелязала..например, няма да забравя как тук,в АТЛ една холандка ме беше помолила да й превеждам от албански и когато й казах,че аз албански не знам,тя беше много учудена,защото Албания и България били в един район и тя мислела,че езиците ни си приличат ... :х и когато разказах това на една моя приятелка,която живее там,тя каза,че това изобщо не е учудващо,защото повечето хора там си нямали идея за държавите на изток...

Big discussion about nothing

Some mounths ago i was speaking to a malaysian friend of mine who is studying in UK now. And he asked where do i come from and I said Bulgaria and he of course knew nothing. But strange is that I didn`t knew anything about Malaysia too. So I can`t say that I know where every country is on the map (Tajikistan for ex. )

But my point is that when we speak he said once to me (the malaysian) that i`m very wise. And I`m not. And he`s not dumb... Maybe, yes, we learn a lot in school. But knowledge is not a bad thing after all

pretty much every brit knows bulgaria's in the EU, because you joined with romania, and we were told to expect a massive influx of immigrants :P

Many english tread bulgarians as a 3rd world people when they are in UK, but when the english come here they say oooh such a great country etc. and buy villas on our sea coast...

And every one from the west countries think that when you come from a small country... that means that young people play with mud and women feed hens, milk cows etc.
And that`s sooo not true... Of course there are people who do that too, but not all
