I don't know, I am not native arabic speaker, but I would understand: I went where the sun sets.
That is understandable, but doesn't sound proper to me, even in English. :/
I need something that indicates both direction and place, or something..., don't know exactly how to explain.
as if I say ila l-makani al-ladhi tashriqu fihi sh-shamsu...which is pretty laborious...
what about things like sawba, sha6tra, na7wa / na7iyata...?
or can I say: ila ma الام ...? but as relative adverb...maybe ila 7aythu...which is also quite ponderous...
what a braintwister...sorry
I went where the sun rises
To the place that the sun rises
to shorten it maybe:
The place of the sun rise
Using the words you suggested:
I went towards the sun rise
I went towards the place the sun rises
Take your pic!! I think all of them make perfect sense, and there is no need for the long winded version![]()

Hey there, I would like to
For إلامَ, this is a question form, that means only used in asking questions cases, it means to what, where, and I think it's shortened from إلى ماذا. So if you want to ask what are you looking at? you'll say إلامَ تنظر؟ in the elongated form
For حيث I feel it gives the meaning of place with no direction. It can be used as:
ذهبت حيث مشرق/ مغرب الشمس (mashriq/ ma3'reb is اسم مكان a place name 'I hope you know اسم المكان')
sawba, sha6tra, na7wa
They are all alike, with addition of direcion (it's good that you mentioned them because they didn't come to my mind)
You'll use them as
ذهبت ناحية شروق/ غروب الشمس with preference of using the other 3 forms.
