Daricheh
(A Window)
Yek daricheh barâyeh raftan
A window to the freedom *
Yek daricheh barâyeh didan
A window for seeing (the truth) **
Yek daricheh barâyeh parvâz
A window for flying ***
Par zadan, raftan o paridan
For taking wing, for flying away
Az tah-e darreh hâyeh tardid
From the bottom of the hollows of uncertainty
Yek daricheh beh sooyeh khorshid
A window to the sun
Yek nafas, bâl o par keshidan
A moment for a rise, for a soar
Yek ofogh rooberooyeh khorshid
A horizon to the sun ****
Az hame âlam o hameh kas
Out of all the things and the people
Yek daricheh barâyeh man bas
A window is enough for me ^
Az hame âlam o hameh kas
Out of all the things and the people
Yek daricheh barâyeh man bas
A window is enough for me
Yek daricheh barâyeh raftan
A window for going out
Dar havâyeh tow par keshidan
(and) taking wing in your breeze
Az saranjâm-e ghesseh-yeh man
To reach from the ending of my life story
Tâ sarâghâz-e tow residan
to the dawn of your presence (in my life) ^^
Yek daricheh barâyeh avâz
A window to the chant
Yek bahaneh barâyeh âghaz
A reason for an inception
Yek ghazal az tow bar lab-e man
On my lips, there is an ode^^^ by you
Marham-e zakhmeh bar tan-e sâz
(which is) A remedy for the wounds on the lute, caused by the plectrum #
Az hame âlam o hameh kas
Out of all the things and the people
Yek daricheh barâyeh man bas
A window is enough for me
Az hame âlam o hameh kas
Out of all the things and the people
Yek daricheh barâyeh man bas
A window is enough for me
Khasteh az in hameh shekâyat
I am weary of all these grievances
In hame ghesseh o revâyat
(of) all these stories and anecdotes
Teshneh am teshneh nahâyat
I am thirsty, thirsty for the everlasting life ##
Yek daricheh mikhâm beh hejrat
I need a window leading to the exodus ###
Yek daricheh mikhâm beh hejrat
I need a window leading to the exodus
Ta sar-e gholleh-yeh ziyârat
to the summit of pilgrimage
Jaddeh-yeh tâ hozoor-e hazrat
A road for reaching to the aura of the prophet of love
Roo be âyiin o haghighat
to the purity and truth ####
Az hame âlam o hameh kas
Out of all the things and the people
Yek daricheh barâyeh man bas
A window is enough for me
Az hame âlam o hameh kas
Out of all the things and the people
Yek daricheh barâyeh man bas
A window is enough for me

* The poet sees this world as a house without doors here.
** The poet believes that this world is so dark for him in a way that he can't see the light/truth.
*** This world is like a cage to the poet.
**** In this stanza the poet wants to tell us that although he lives in the depth of uncertainty where is no hope/light, he is still hopeful.
^ Only this window to the light/truth can lead the poet to the salvation.
^^ Apparently, the presence of the beloved would be the new beginning for the poet. This beloved however is the eternal love/truth.
^^^It can be a Ghazal or a song followed by a melody.

# Lute or Tar is a very symbolic instrument in Persian culture. Here, the poet personifies the lute and then draws similarities between the lute and the lover. In Persian language "Zakhmeh" or "Zakhm" can be referred to two things. One is the plectrum (pick) and the other one is the wound. Poet uses this ambiguity here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tar_%28lute%29
## By everlasting life, the poet wants to refer to the infinity of the true love.
### Here, exodus means leaving of the current situation and searching for the true love.
#### In this stanza, the poet gives love a holy meaning and depicts it as a sacred bliss.

Cleverim,
This translation is just smashing!
Thank you for your dedication!
Mamnoonam!!!
Hariram,
Thank you for introducing this song to me!
Now having Clever's wonderful translation I can fully see its depth and beauty.
Kheyli mamnoon! -
Thank you for your kind words Pawel. I can't compare my translation with your impeccable translations of Kayah's songs. I'm the one who should thank you for all of the things you've given to me.

Oh, c'mon Owles
, your last comment is just pure Eastern exaggeration!
Anyone at ATL, who's familiar with your translations, knows that they are absolutely outstanding, simply unparalleled and, moreover, full of poetry themselves!
Considering the richness of metaphors and the art of ambiguity, translating from Farsi demands ultra skills in both understanting and translating poetry. You've got both in abundance, my friend!
I haven't met anyone here (yet) who could surpass you in this respect, azizam!
As compared to yours, my 30-minute "translations" are like scribing something unimportant in a note-pad. So, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeez ...
They say a translation can either be accurate or beautiful - yours combine both these qualities.
Kudos to you, Owlie!Last edited by Paul Orhan; 04-17-2011 at 12:36 AM.

In ancient Greece they crowned individuals with laurel wreaths for their excellence.
Unfortunately, we don't have :laurelfun: here so these roses will have to stand for them:

You've made me blush Pawel, oh come on!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not that good for sure, plus I see your translations as great ones.
Let's finish the compliment procedure
I've only read English poems a lot. That's it, and I've done it because of my field of study at the university.
So, you're welcome dear and I'm so happy that you like it.***The translations have been done by Bijan Kardouni AKA veryclever1980*** -

Maybe for you this was a "compliment procedure" (could this be your first slip of Tarof???
) but as far as I'm concerned I was just expressing my deep belief.
And as you can see, I'm not alone in my convictions!
StarIm!
Gracias, draga mea, for supporting my stance! -
So, I've got nothing to say.
