I have heard from my Israeli friends about the Egyptian movies that were shown in Israel in the 80's and which were very popular, at least among the Mizrahi population. There are also references to Egyptian movies in the lovely Israeli film "The Band's Visit", which is about an Egyptian orchestra that by mistake ends up in an Israeli "development town" in the middle of the desert:

I have also heard about the Friday night Arab movies, which I think were mainly intended for the Israeli Arab population. However, I have the impression that these movies were also popular among many Jewish Israelis...you know, before Shabbat kicked in, they would watch the Arab movie on the telly. Do you have any (musical or otherwise) memories of this?
Best, Eva
