Horis esena-Arvanitaki
Can someone translate this song for me please???
If this is the song:
then:
Eleftheria Arvanitaki - Horis esena / Without you
Όταν κάτι τελειώνει, / When something is over,
λιώνει ο πόνος το χιόνι, / pain melts the snow,
γιατί είναι ζεστός, / because it's hot,
σαν τον ήλιο ζεστός. / hot like the sun.
Και μετά ξημερώνει, / And then it dawns,
είμαι ακόμη πιο μόνη, / i'm yet more alone,
κι εσύ πιο δυνατός, όλο πιο δυνατός. / and you are stronger, more and more stronger.
Όμως ξέρω μια μέρα, / But i know that someday,
ίσως χρόνια μετά, / maybe years later,
θα μετρήσω ξανά τα σπασμένα, / i will count again the damages,
χωρίς εσένα, χωρίς εσένα. / without you, without you.
Τα φτερά μου θα απλώσω / I will open my wings
και θα φτάσω ψηλά, / and i will go high,
να κοιτάζω τα ξεθωριασμένα, / to look at the faint (things)
χωρίς εσένα, χωρίς εσένα. / without you, without you.
Όταν μένει σημάδι, / When a mark is left,
από ψεύτικο χάδι, / because of a fake caress,
ξενυχτά μια πληγή, / a wound stays awake
πάλι ως την αυγή. / again till the dawn.
Μοναξιά το λιμάνι, / Loneliness is the port, *
σ’ αγαπώ μα δε φτάνει, / i love you but it's not enough,
ήλιος δε λέει να βγει / the sun doesn't come out
μες στη νύχτα μου αυτή. / into this night of mine.
* not sure what the song writer tries to tell with this...

The most charming creatures on this earth. The only women who can show what they feel and, they do feel.
Stunning feeling...to just meet them.
In Greek it can mean a couple of things, like:
"Μοναξιά είναι το λιμάνι" or
"Υπάρχει μοναξιά στο λιμάνι" aka "το λιμάνι είναι έρημο"
...
...i don't know what else...
Anyway, i will use "Μοναξιά είναι το λιμάνι" but that sentence is totally irrelevant to the rest of the lyrics
which makes the translation harder, and in my personal opinion, it was just "dropped" there to match
the rhyme...
Correction done.

how do you say about Ğmonaksia sto limaniğ it's also correct?
vasilias,
"μοναξιά στο λιμάνι" = "loneliness in the port"
But, listen,
the problem with that lyrics is this...
that sentence doesn't contain a verb which would give a clue about what the song writer wants to say...Grammatically is incorrect... BUT...
...this is not unusual generally in Greek language because there are a lot of cases when we can omit the verb because it is easily assumed from the context.
That sentence is totally "floating" in the song without anything connecting it with the previous or the following lines, except the fact that the whole lyrics are those of a sad mood song... (irrelevant maybe....)
For that reason, when i read that sentence and try to get its meaning so i can translate it in a meaningful way, it is exactly the same like if i meet a person in the street and suddenly tells me (without saying anything else) : "loneliness the port" ... and then he goes away...
... Did you understand anything by that phrase? Nope i guess, -> me neither...
It would be a lot different if, for example, i was with a friend at the port and we were discussing things and suddenly he was saying this to me:
"hey look around"
"loneliness the port"
In that case i would know exactly what he meant...He'd mean that there's no-one except us in the port that time...thus "there is loneliness in the port tonight"...
...If you understand what i mean...
In this song, that sentence doesn't lead me anywhere... Because the context is not helping me enough to understand what the writer wants to say... (while using a grammatically incorrect phrase).
That happens to many songs...
Maybe it's just me not having enough imagination to guess it, but, in my humble opinion, such kind of lyrics may be the best for some while they don't make any sense for me...
In such situations, i can't help more than the lyrics help itself for an accurate translation...
Maybe not everything can be translated, but in this case, i'm Greek and i still have a hard time to get the meaning either...![]()
