Welcome to the Heartbrake Bar & Grill
Conveniently located on the banks of Whiskey River
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    (Intro)
We saw you down by the river.
You was dancin with an old friend.
You looked happy in his arms there.
Are you in love with him?

    (Bridge 1)
Girl you're married to my brother.
What you're doin is all wrong.
I found him sittin in a bar room.
He'd been drinkin all night long.

    (Verse 1)
In one hand was a shot-glass.
    He was drinkin full throttle.
    And I could plainly see,
that he'd done hit rock bottom.

    (Verse 2)
So I sat down at his table.
The way his hands shook was a shame.
He was blurry eyed and cryin.
Oh, his tear drops fell like rain.

    (Verse 3)
He turned-n-looked me in the eye.
Said: I've lost her to that other guy.
Can't believe she's traded me for lust.
She'll never know the tears it's cost..

    (Chorus 1)
And if whiskey flowed down whiskey river,
I would drink that river dry.
Then I'd fill it right back up again,
with all these tears flowin from my eyes.

    (Chorus 2)
I.. I would jump right in that river!
And I could swim from shore to shore.
But I just might let it drag me under,
    cause I can't take this pain any-more.

    (Short Brake)

    (Verse 4)
He took off his wedding ring.
Said: I can't wear this thing.
Then he downed a double shot,
and I kept on drinkin while he sang:

    (Verse 5)
I get my comfort from a bottle,
and not always one shot at a time,
while I'm singing to the bar-maid,
I wish this sad song wasn't mine..

    (Verse 6)
I get my lovin from the bar-maid,
    one glance at a time,
while I'm singin to my shot-glass,
I wish this sad song wasn't mine.

    (Verse 7)
He slipped the bar-maid a twenty.
Rolled tightly in it was his ring.
When she relized what was in there,
    She whaled-up-n-wept while he sang:

    (Bridge 2)
Girl you're married to me now!
What you're doin you know is wrong.
You've got me cryin in bar rooms.
Got me drinkin all night long..

    (Chorus 1)
And If whiskey flowed down Whiskey River.
I would drink that river dry-ey-ey.
    Drink n cry.
Then I'd fill it right back up again,
with all these tears flowin from my eyes..

    (Chorus 2)
I would jump right in that river,
and I could swim from shore to shore.
    That's for sure.
But I'd probly let it drag me under,
    cause I can't take this pain any-more.

    (Outro)
But I'll still be here tomorrow,
    still drownin in my sorrow.

Wayne this oughta be a hit on the next country chart .. this sounds sooooo classic, I'm just all over myself and I might even start listening to C&W again

You're my favorite person as of right now! lol

Actually the song wasn't finished. It had a little gap in it. But I got in a hurry and wanted to get some feedback on what I had so far. I've been working on two verses in the background. I finally got them done and posted here. They really help make the story more complete and entertaining. I'm very happy you like it. That alone makes all this hard work worth while. Thanks man! You're not really going to start listening to C&W again are you? lol

    Take care buddy

    Lol well thanks!

I know what you mean about gaps, but sometimes that's like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder. Only you could know something was missing? But now after your additions it builds a whole series of scenes in my head.

Just one thing, I tried to figure out if there was a "person shift" somewhere along the way but it isn't obvious ... the reason I wonder is because in Verse 1 she's married to "my brother" but then to "me" in the third-from-last stanza? Just curious about that little detail

And for the life of me I cannot remember who sang the words Cold Cold Heart! I can remember a good ol' country baritone, but I can't put a name to the voice. Can you help me out a lil bit??

Actually I do still slide thru the local country stations every now and then ... and not All but some of My Ex's Live in Texas, so you know I can't EVER get totally away from it

Great lyrics and great style and I still call it classic!

    Hello Hound Dog,

Thanks again sir! I kinda had a feeling you listened to a little country now and then. You looked at mine didn't you. Hank Williams Sr. wrote and sang Cold Cold Heart. Ok, as for that person shift. The brother of the guy that got cheated on is telling this story. In the verses you're talking about, I think it just slipped past you who was doing what. The brother is saying this: He, "the guy that got cheated on", slipped the bar-maid a twenty, it was rolled up in hes ring. As the bar-maid poured our drinks, she wept when she heard Him "the guy that got cheated on" sing, girl you're married to me now etc... So, in the third-from-last stanza the guy who got cheated on is singing: girl you're married to me now. Boy, that was a mouth full! lol I hope I explained it good enough to understand. I did a little more editing and labeled the verses. Maybe that will help.

Gotta go now. Time to eat.

It happens to the best of us. And I am still developing the song, so here are some new verses with a few minor changes. I think the changes may help the mental pictures a bit?
