    Default Info on Omer Adam

    Hi Jake,

A little more info on Omer Adam. He has also covered the Greek Eurovision entry "Opa". In the video he is wearing traditional clothing of the Caucasian Jews (Mountain Jews)-his Dad is Kavkazi, as they are called in Israel.

And here is 'live' version with vocal improvisation:

In 2009 Omer Adam participated in the Israeli version of "A Star is Born", but he was excluded because he was too young (he had not given his real age when he entered!). Despite the fact that he never got the chance to compete, he is one of the hottest artists in Israel right now. On Wednesday he will play the ancienct amphitheatre in Caesaria, which is kind of holy ground for Israeli performers...and he's only 17!

Anyway, here is another video where he sings with family friend Itzik Kalah, one of Israel's finest singers IMHO:

    http://youtu.be/cDHorgCRlKo

Itzik Kalah is a great fan of Greek music and he has recorded many classic Greek songs in Hebrew:

The genre of Omer Adam is called "Eastern Music" (Musica Mizrachit) or Mediterranean music (Musica Yam Tichonit) in Israel, and sounds a lot like Greek music (with a Turkish/Arab flavour). Many of the older singers in this genre sing in Arabic as well, since their families came to Israel from Arab-speaking countries in the 50's.

This was probably more than you wanted to know about Omer Adam!;-)

    Best, Eva
