Ένας μέρμηγκας κουφός με πήρε απ το χέρι
A big-old deaf ant guided me
"Είμαι" λέει " ο πιο σοφός σ΄ ολόκληρο τ' ασκέρι"
"I am" he says "the most wise ant, among the whole village"

Και τα μικρά του τα μερμηγκάκια
And his small ants
χειροκροτάνε μ' ενθουσιασμό
salute with enthusiasm
"εν-δυο προσκυνάμε",
"we march, we kowtow",
"εν-δυο πολεμάμε",
"we march, we fight",
"εν-δυο δεν πεινάμε".
"we march, we 're not starving".

"Τα βολεύεις μια χαρά σπουδαίο μου μυρμήγκι
"My big ant, you manage things pretty well
όμως πρόσεχε καλά τ' ωραίο σου λαρύγγι"
but you should take care of your fine throat"

χειροκροτάνε μ' ενθουσιασμό
salute with enthusiasm

Πριν προφτάσω να του πω το σύστημα ν' αλλάξει,
Just before I tell him to change his stance,
πλάκωσε όλο το χωριό το μέρμηγκα να χάψει
the whole village hurried to bite the big ant.

Και τα μικρά του τα μερμηγκάκια
And his small ants
χειροκροτάνε μ' ενθουσιασμό
salute with enthusiasm

"we march, we kowtow",
"εν-δυο μα πεινάμε"
we march but we 're starving",

"we march and will eat you!".
