Exclamation "The Axion Esti".... simply one of the best Greek (including the ancient) works EVER

    (1)Odysseas Elytis -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odysseas_Elytis
But you can easily find more info after a quick search.

Translation of "The Axion Esti" -> http://www.anvilpresspoetry.com/page...ew.asp?PID=157

".... I had a clear look of that, the fate of Greece among the other nations was the same of a poet among the other people -and of course I mean the people of wealth and power. That was the first flame, the first finding.
And the need I was feeling for A PRAY, was the second finding.
In other words, (I wanted) to give to this protest of mine against the unfairness, the structure of an ecclesiastic liturgy. And that's how "The Axion Esti" was born.
    "
    Odysseas Elytis

Of course the two songs that you referred are parts of the "laikos" singer's role
in "The Axion Esti". There's also a narrator (in the LP this one's an actor) and one
    chorister.

Theodorakis' talent proved that there is a certain way which
if is properly followed then "non-intellectual" people could approach
the meaning of difficult poems- works.

These are videos with Bithikotsis' voice (can't be a better interpretation than his) :

    Tis dikeosinis ilie noite

    Ena to chelidoni

If anyone wants to find a proper translation he has to buy the book,
especially for this one he may have to ask some further questions
or try to find answers via searching the net.
This is NOT just a translation.
"The Axion Esti" was a MAIN reason that Nobel prize was offered to Elytis.

But I will always try to learn things and answer to any question I will be able.

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

thank you so much. you always give me the updates that fill in the blanks for me. I am sure i wasnt looking in the right place on Stixoi.info when i looked. I do understand the difficult of finding translations of Greek poetry that can be totally accurate since it is more like subtle meanings etc. I liked reading up on Elytis too. As a Greek and a Spartan i have always had the "revolutionary spirit" which i think is inherent and seems to get me in trouble too...LOL...but just know i appreciate all your time and help to keep educating me...and i appreciate the lyrics a lot
