    Default I've Got My Friends

This was a quick write after a night out with the guys. The lines in parenthesis are backup singers and the lines with double parenthesis are lead singer and backup singers together. I had a "I've got friends in low places" sing along in mind on the last verse. It's kinda a beer drinking song. Comments and criticisms would be appreciated.

When I'm feelin down and out
    and feelin kinda low
I know just who I can call
or where I need to go

They're always there in hard times
    not only with the good
They have stood the test of time
    as true companions should

    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    They're true to the end
    ((I've got my friends))

When I'm feelin mad as hell
    and lookin for a fight
Someones there to calm me down
    or lend a little might

They've bailed me out of trouble
and cussed my dumb *** out
But when it comes to friendship
    that's what it's all about

    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    They're true to the end
    ((I've got my friends))

    [Bridge]
As we sit around the bonfire
    laughing and drinking beer
I raise my bottle and say,
I'm damn glad to be here___

    Cause..

    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    The fun never ends
    ((I've got my friends))

    [No Music]
    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    I've got my friends
    (I've got my friends)
    The fun never ends
    (I've got my friends)

    [Repeat with fade]
    [Sound of crackling fire]
    [Background laughter]
    [Sound of beer cracking open]

Glassy, somehow before the bridge i was thinking "my friends" refers to your drink brands.

Like i think "someone to...lend a little might" refers to Dutch courage.

The background sounds make it seem more country than anything to me.(@ Doug)

@Cat;I hear the Ray-ettes (Ray Charles background singers)on the background. This reminds me of Hit the Road,Jack,Georgia, and other hits by the Master:Ray Charles. If you listen to Ray's early stuff,I think you'll come to agree with me.But I could be wrong.

Thanks for reading and your comments Doug. You know I never thought of the song that way until you mentioned it. So I started thinking of a melody in that vein for it and found that, that works too!! I guess there are a couple ways I could take this song. Thanks for the input man.

I thought the Ray Charles reference was as good a compliment as I could muster.Since I'm more familiar with the early Classic singers and bands, that's all I can reference. This is the most natural gospel/rhythm and blues song I've seen in years. Also Aretha Franklin could sing this like it should be sang!
