Homayoun Shajarian - Gonahe Eshgh

Salaam and hello to everybody!

this is really a great medium to learn alot about one's favorite language, artist, song, etc.. I want to thank personally the active members who translate all those songs from Persian to English. Through that, my love and appreciation for Persian Language and especially Persian poetry only grows bigger and bigger.

Today I have a humble request: who could help me with understanding the words of the song "Avaze Gonahe Eshgh", from the album Naghshe Khial by the great vocalist Homayoun Shajarian:

بيا بيا كه مرا با تو ماجرايي هست
بگوي اگر گنهي رفت و گر خطايي هست

روا بود كه چنين بي*حساب دل ببري ؟
مكن ، كه مظلمه خلق را جزايي هست

توانگران را عيبي نباشد از وقتي
نظر كنند كه در كوي ما گدايي هست

بكام دشمن و بيگانه رفت چندين روز
ز دوستان نشنيدم كه آشنايي هست

كسي نماند كه بر درد من نبخشايد
كسي نگفت كه بيرون ازين دوايي هست

هزار نوبت اگر خاطرح بشوراني
ازنسطرف كه منم همچنان صفايي هست

بدود آتش ماخوليا دماغ بسوخت
هنوز جهل مصور كه كيميايي هست

بكام دل نرسيديم و جان بحلق رسيد
و گر بكام رسد همچنان رجايي هست

بجان دوست دوست كه در اعتقاد سعدي نيست
كه در جهان بجز از كوي دوست جايي هست

I would be just very very thankful if someone would want to help me out... I enjoy this music so much (actually all of his songs), although I only understand very few words of the lyrics.

well you know that it is one of Saadi`s poems and as one of the greatest Persian poets, his poems are very difficult to translate... i will do my best but my translation wont even convey one percent of its true beauty.

Begooy agar gonahi rafto gar khataee hast.)) ===

Come, come to me that there is a lot between you and me. tell me You shun me for what sin? What did I do wrong?

Makon ke mazme khalgh raa jazaaee hast)) ===

Is it a noble behavior that you make me love you so deeply, then turning tyrant without any consideration for me? …. Do not be cruel; there is a judgment day when people should answer for their cruelty.

((Tavangaraan ra aibi nabaashad ar vaghti
Nazar konanad ke dar kooye ma gadaee hast)) ===

It would not really lessen nobility or dignity of an affluent person to help someone in need, if he can.
( it would only add to greatness of beloved if she would just bestow her love and her compassion on her devoted lover sometimes.)

((Be kaame doshmano bigaane raft chandin rooz
Ze doostan nashenidam ke aashenaee hast)) ===

My days are passing in such fashion that if any news from me reaches others, it would only makes my enemies happy. ( my days are passing so miserablely.)
And all these time no friend gave any sign of friendship, nor any kindness.

((Kasi namand ke bar dared man nabakhshayad
Kasi nagoft ke biroon azin davaee hast)) ===

No one is left that has not increased my pain (with words or deeds)
No one tried to heal my injuries or ceased my pains.

((Hezaar nobat agar khateram beshoorani
Azaan taraf ke manam hamchenaan safaaee hast)) ===

If you hurt me even thousand of times, again and again, I would never grow cold toward me. My love for you would never die.

((Bedoode aatashe makhoolia damaagh besookht
Hanooz jahle mosavar ke kimiaee hast)) ===

Its just the delusion of turning metal to gold that makes alchemist maintain his work, in spite of its obvious uselessness, its continuous failure.
( it is only the hope of someday receiving love, someday reaching his beloved, that lover endures all sufferings in the path of love)

((Be kaame del naresidimo jaan be halgh resid
Vagar be kaam resad hamchenaan rajaaee hast)) ===

I never achieved the deepest desire of my heart, but the hope that my wish someday would be fulfilled is always with me. I will never lose hope.

((Be jaan doost ke dar eteghade Saadi nist
Ke dar jahaan be joz az koye doost jaaee hast)) ===

Swear to beloved that in Saade’s eyes nothing exists in the whole world except the beloved abode.

Dear Soniya, I'm very very thankful to you When I listen to the song, I shiver even more now I know the profound meaning of those words... I've just tried to read some more about Sa'di Shirazi and read some of his poets (in English). I really enjoyed it. I love very much poets with this mystic and profound style, just like the poems of Mulana Jala-u Din Rumi.
