Default So I've just started writing lyrics...

As the title says I've only just started writing lyrics, I play guitar in a band and have been writing music for a long time, but lyrics are brand new to me. I haven't showed anything to any of the other guys in my band yet or anyone else for that matter, I guess the anonymity of posting them in a forum on the internet appeals to me haha.

I don't have any complete songs yet, just odd parts of songs I've started working on. Even though I've just started doing this I've already learned I'm a lot better at starting songs than finishing them haha. Anyway, I'm posting a few things I've started working on and I would really appreciate any feedback anyone on here could give me!

This song is tentatively titled 'This time next year', and is about someone who's going through a terrible situation, and just wanting to do whatever you can to pull them through, telling them that everything will be alright, but sort of knowing there's nothing you can really do. I've got the first verse and the bridge/middle 8, the chorus is just a hummed melody so I haven't written that down.

    Verse 1:
    This time next year,
I promise we'll live so far from here,
and the four walls that haunt you and fill you with fear
    will be gone.

    So don't worry my sweet,
though I know it seems happiness lies just out of reach,
all that you long for will fall at your feet,
    you'll see

    Bridge:
And I still remember the day,
when everything went wrong at once,
and all our past problems seem trivial at most, and I,
looked into your eyes and saw nothing, and you,
stared through mine and saw everything I wish I wasn't,
but I'm not strong like I used to be,
just a shadow of a memory you refuse to set free,

This next song doesn't have a name, all I've got so far is a chorus, or it may possibly become a prechorus. It's about waiting for the right person and risking being alone if you never find them vs playing it safe and settling with down with someone just so that you're not alone.

    You've got your convictions,
    and a cautious disposition,
but none of those, will keep you warm tonight,
    and I'll make a prediction,
    you'll abandon facts for fiction,
cos lying's easy, with someone by your side,
but when you're all alone, it's hard just to get by.

This song's just a verse and a prechorus, and is about a relationship that over time has gone bad and that neither of you really want to be in anymore but you still find yourself staying together. The prechorus looks a bit strange written down with the length of the lines and number of syllables, it's written for two singers, with one singing the odd lines and the other singing the even lines and the end of one line overlaps with the start of the next, kinda hard to explain haha.

    Verse
We built ourselves a little piece of heaven,
then brick by brick, we tore it down,
the rubble left behind became a prison,
the hollow space became a battleground

    Prechorus
I've been searching for a feeling,
or some hope to hold on to,
    something to believe in
but I can't see the light,
and the ghosts in the ceiling,
    will always haunt you

I've got loads of other odd bits but I thought I'd just post these up for now. As you can probably see none of these are anywhere near finished, but any feedback any of you guys could give on what I've got so far would be very much appreciated!

Not bad for starters! I had a shoe box of scraps for years before I could write a complete song.
