Default Advantages of a high roof in a garage

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my garage, and one thing that keeps coming up is roof height. Right now I have a standard low roof, and every time I try to store something bulky, like ladders or seasonal decorations, it feels cramped. Last month I even had trouble opening the rear door of my SUV inside without feeling like it was too tight. It made me wonder if going with a higher roof would actually make a big difference long term. Has anyone here built or upgraded to a high-roof garage? Is it really worth the extra cost, or does it just look better on paper?

From my experience, the extra height makes a bigger difference than people expect. I helped my brother plan his new structure, and we looked at options similar to the two-story setups shown here https://www.storageshedsandgarages.c...ambrel-garage/. Even if you don’t fully use a second floor, the higher roof allows for overhead storage racks, better ventilation, and even a small loft. In his case, he now stores tools above and keeps the main floor clear for working on his truck. It also feels less stuffy in summer because hot air rises. I’d say if you plan to stay in the house for years, the added space pays off.

Interesting topic. I don’t have a garage myself, but I’ve noticed that people who treat their garage as more than just parking space seem happier with extra room. Some turn it into a workshop, others into a mini gym or hobby area. Even psychologically, higher ceilings tend to make any space feel more open and comfortable. I guess it depends on how you plan to use it, but thinking ahead about future needs always seems like a smart move.
