I noticed two long cracks across my back patio slab after a few heavy rains, and now one corner sits a little lower than the rest. It is not crumbling, but it looks uneven enough that a chair rocks on it. I am trying to figure out where the line is between “this can be repaired or leveled” and “just replace the whole slab.” Has anyone dealt with this before?

From what I have seen, it depends a lot on whether the slab is still mostly solid or if it has started breaking apart into pieces. Small cracks, uneven spots, or a slab that has settled a bit can often be repaired, especially if the issue is soil movement underneath. I had a similar thing near my side walkway, and the contractor told me replacement was only worth it if the concrete was badly shattered, too thin, or sinking because of a bigger drainage problem. I found this page about tile repair in Sarasotaa while comparing repair options, and it gave me a better idea of how leveling is sometimes used before jumping straight to replacement.

I always notice these home repair topics because every house seems to have one little issue that turns into a weekend project. Last month I started with cleaning the garage and somehow ended up reorganizing tools, sealing gaps near the door, and making a list of things I had ignored for years. Funny how one small detail makes you look at the whole place differently.
