    Hi Irenee, and all others,
first of All I have to introduce myself as I am new to this forum. Ive been reading your posts for a while. I am from Germany with greek background and I love to listen to greek music and I love oriental dance, so I think I can help Irenee.

The son you diescribe above goes on: Ya Habibi, Ya Leleli chorepse mou tsiftetli... it is an older song maybe from Kazantsidis but I am not sure.

There is also one old very well known song called: Anapse to tsigaro, which ist very good for belly dancing, you could do it even with a tambourine.

If you like to dance with double veil you can use MARGARITES from Angela Dimitrou.
MAybe you know the Songs ELEOS and ANA BEHABEK AKHBAR. Both are from Angela Dimitrou (singing greek) accompanied with Amr Diab or Hisham Abbas (Singing arabic).
There ist also one Song sang from Alkistis Protopsalti "PARADECHTIKA" its a 9/8 rhythm. This song was composed from Goran Bregovic and exists also in turkish sang by Sezen Aksu.
    Some more song:
    Magkava tou
    THelo apobse na chorepso
Filakia (which ist originally from Tarkan)

There are a whole lot. Many of those songs exists also in arabic or turkish version.

I hope I could helf you a little bit.

    Greeting from Germany
    Tahira

    Hi Rene,
there is also another song called OPA OPA, I think somebody of this forum has already translated it. This one you can perfectly use for inviting the people to dance with you at the end of your show program.

There is on song, I love to dance to... maybe some of the readers here can help me, I do not know the title nor the singer. But I would like to know both and most of all the complete lyrics. It´s a man singing, it´s greek pop musik and at the end of the song you hear somebody wiping broken pieces of glass and porcelain from the floor - it starts:

Den ksero pou patao kai pou pigeno - arosteno- mpes mou.....

    later on in this song:

Den ksero ti na kano, pou na pao - s´agapao - mpes mou
    ...
giati deneis ta alous ta filia sou....
    Den Mágapas.

It would be great if anybody has an idea. The song is probably 5-6 years old.

    Hi!
Tahira, the song you're looking for is sung by Giorgos Mazonakis and it's called Τι σου έχω κάνει

    Good morning everybody!
Thank you dya..... Great! Now I will try to get some more music by Mazionakis, I like his vooice an maybe the others songs are in the same style.

@rene: I am quite sure that the song you´r looking for is named YA HABIBI YA LELELY. I once bought an cassette from rhodos with greek tsiftetelly musik and on this casette was this song called like that. Unfortunatelly I sold this cassette at the flee market, so I can´t check it again. But, if you should go to Greece and ask in a musik shop I am sure they know which song you mean. Everybody knows this, its kind of an evergreen. It must be from the sixties.

    Regards, Tahira

    Hi Rene and Tzina,
there is another very popular song "Ta Mavra matia sou" it is originally composed by Mohamed Abdul Wahab and called "Mebtiti minin el Hikiya". THe classical arabic version is perfect for bellydancing. And there´s is one of the most popular arabic song "Enta Omri" sung by Om Kolthoum which exists in greek language... I think it is called "Min feegeis" in greek. Baut at the moment I cannot get my brain free of "ta mavra matia sou"...
    I come back again...

rene: how long habe you been dancing?

    Regards, Tahira

    Hi Rene,
I am dancing for 15 years, and I think I will never stop it. In germany is a big belly dance scene so you habe many chances to see bellydance, visit trade fairs or have lessons.
How did you com across greek music? Most people think of arabic or turksih music in connection with belly dance?

    HAve a lovely day
