classic salsa help

ive been more into my roots lately and ive wrote a few salsa songs but what i dont understand is when i listen to celia cruz and many other afrocuban artist use lucimi and santeria slang that no one gets and when i search on the internet for carribien/yoruban slang to use in my music i find nothing but info on deities like chango etc... any way i just want to know if i should even use the language or not meddle with it like my family says
