In Romanian language the word "salut" exists and means the same like in French. Now "salut" is a Romanian word.

it seem that there are lots of similarities between French and Romanian as they both come from the same Latin root (as well as Italian, Spanish and Portuguese). I red once a biography of a Romanian band and I could understand many things and I don't speak a word of Romanian (but I love their folk music).

You're right Nico After 1800 in many Romanians went to complete the studies in France or Germany or Autria. This "tradition" If I may say, continued since the interbelic periode. Now... A few can afort to study in Sorbonne.

yes, actually i speak french, italian, and spanish as well as study some latin, so understand much more romanian than i thought i would! but correction: "voinic" means brave or strong, not "neat". and the proper title for this song would be "Dragostea Din Tei", or the Love (Dragostea) From (Within, In... "din" has many meanings as a preposition) the Linden Trees (Tei). also, "nu-ți cer nimic" means "i ask you for nothing". Also, the "numa numa" is actually "nu mă nu mă", as in "not me not me". "nu mă iei" means "not me take", or simply "(you) don't take me".

That song actually has helped to make up the majority of my Romanian vocabulary. LOL.

Esbes done a good translation. "Your face and the love under the linden tree
remind me of your eyes" sounds better than the one in the link I provided, where it said something like, "Your face and the love of the linden tree and I remember your eyes"

Right, this us the roundabout way I learn Romanian: through songs! Haha
