Nisiotika

who may tell me about this kind of greek music, especially on the kyklades. I only know a few songs (+some from parios, who else ), I heard them at a traditional dances and songs meeting in naoussa.

I am fascinated from this music, it's life pur, I find no words to describe it, but I am sure you know what I want to say if you love this music too.

Are there CD's you may recommend?

One day I would like do dance like they do...but I suppose I am to old, and no greek woman

Concerning dance: you are never too old, for dance. Especially folk dances are unique. And you do not need to be young and tiny (as for example in ballett) to learn it. At the moment I am looking myself for a DVD oder Video where you can learn the basic steps of traditional greek dances. I can contact you again, when I found one. Looking on youtube with the word "syrtos" you can also find some greek dances.

dear susi, I love nisiotika's,too... and I can advice you some of my favourites...

glykeria---->kaiki mou ai'nikola
yiannis parios---->horepsete
yiannis parios---->ikariotiko
yiannis parios---->sala sala (it's also a traditional song from my country too.. I mean Turkey "Sallasana Sallasana")
stella konitopoulou---->kanarini mou glyko (it's again a turkish song too. it's "cilveli kanaryam" or "sıra sıra siniler")

When you talk about nisiotika I can only think of two things...

First of course Parios and his nisiotika CD (he is from Paros and its the reason he changed his name from Varthakouris to Parios..)

and secondly the whole Konitopoulos family.. I recommend you to get some songs from Stella Konitopoulou (and the rest as well) and you will not regret it
