Default Zhalna goro, zhal mi e za tebe

    Hi guys! Привет!
Nice to meet you! (just found this place)

I once tried to translate this song to english for some friends, so I might as well post it here!
You can d/l the song as well from my server - Jalna goro, jal mi e za tebe!

It is a folkloric Bulgarian song from, I believe by the style of singing, from Graovsko and Tr'n (Трън) region. (this is west of Sofia towards the today serbian border)

For me personally this is one of most powerful and saddest bulgarian songs!
Listen to it - the gadulka (stringed instrument) is just crying along the woman and the woods!

the singer is lamenting her plight in the old times of arranged marriage:

    -----------------

    E - he - e - he - e - y,
oh sorrowful [i.e. autumn] forest, it pains me for you,
both for you and for my old mother, for she has me young put to marriage
why she has me young put to marriage, to an evil sent me
married me, to an evil sent me, to an evil father-in-law,
to more evil mother-in-law, to evil brother-in-law, to more evil wife-of-brother-in-law
to evil brother-in-law, to more evil wife-of-brother-in-law, and to a loved one - a bitter bandit.

    E - he - e - he - e - y,
grieve oh forest, grieve dear my sister, grieve forest, both of us to grieve
you - for the leaf, oh forest, me - for the youth
your leaf will sprout again, my youth will not come back

my youth will not come back.

    --------------------

Is interesting that the poetic symbol and some of the verses are the same as in macedonian song "Zaidi, zaidi iasno sontze" discussed in this thread nikolai-slaveev-makedonsko-devoiche
