the year long search!!!

Been looking for this song for about a year now. I'll hear a second of it, rememeber how it goes, plan to find it, then completely forget it. I FINALLY heard it again, forgot it, and just rememebered again today, so I thought I better get goin on tryin to figure it out.

What I know...
not much, lol.
Male singer, sounds kinda late 80s, early 90s ish.
the first word is held kinda long, and it sounds like "I"
Song is kinda a soft rockish, i think....

I have a sad attempt at trying to learn this song on my keyboard, but, the part that I think will give it away sounds somewhat decent for someone who can't play piano, lol. Heres my poor attempt, lol. Warning, many notes are wrong, but, the rhythm is there, and, I guess the notes are close enough, lol.
Anyone recognize it?
