I've been trying to find this song that I heard once upon a time and can vaguely remember what the lyrics may have been. It was probably written around the 60's or early 70's but I may be totally wrong. It always reminded me of One Tin Soldier. Anyway, it was something about riders or knights or something going to a place where "the streets were paved in gold". It's something like that. I wish I had more information, but maybe one of you will read this and be like "Oh yea! That one!". Thanks a million for your help all!

"After the Gold Rush" by Neil Young ??
Well, I dreamed I saw the knights
In armor coming,
Saying something about a queen.
There were peasants singing and
Drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree.
There was a fanfare blowing
To the sun
That was floating on the breeze.
Look at Mother Nature on the run
In the nineteen seventies.
Look at Mother Nature on the run
In the nineteen seventies.
I was lying in a burned out basement
With the full moon in my eyes.
I was hoping for replacement
When the sun burst thru the sky.
There was a band playing in my head
And I felt like getting high.
I was thinking about what a
Friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie.
Thinking about what a
Friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie.
Well, I dreamed I saw the silver
Space ships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun,
There were children crying
And colors flying
All around the chosen ones.
All in a dream, all in a dream
The loading had begun.
They were flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home in the sun.
Flying Mother Nature's
Silver seed to a new home. -
I cannot imagine it is this, as it so clearly is from the early 90's, but perhaps the inclusion of Johnny Cash's vocal confused you. (or should that be me???)
U2 feat Johnny Cash - The Wanderer
I went out wandering
through streets paved with gold
lifted some stone saw the skin and bones
of a city without a soul
I went out wandering
under an atomic sky
where the ground won't turn
and the rain it burns
like the tears when I said goodbye
Yeah I left with nothing
nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering
I went drifting
through the capitals of tin
where men can't walk or freely talk
and sons turn their fathers in
Yeah I went out walking
down that old Lake Lane
I passed by a thousand signs
Just a looking for my own name
Yeah I left with nothing
nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering
Yeah I went out there in search of experience
to tast and to touch and to feel as much
as a man can before he repents
I went walking
looking for one good man
a spirit who would not bend or break
who would stand at his father's right hand
I went out walking with a Bible and a gun
the word of God lay heavy on my heart
I was sure I was the one
Now Jesus don't you wait up
Jesus I'll be home soon
Yeah I went out for the paper
Told her I'd be back by noon
Yeah I left with nothing
Nothing but the thought of you
I went wandering
Yeah I left with nothing
But the thought you'd be there too
I went wandering
Hope that helps. Here is a link to listen too.
