We should explain that Ardeal and Transilvania are one and the same thing. It's a region in Romania. The official name is Transilvania, the popular name is Ardeal.

It's Horea/Horia, a Romanian hero, head of a peasant's riot, who was sentenced to death by the authorities, and he was killed with a cruel method: tied up to a wheel which riped his body apart.
