I wanna thank you for this as I really didn't know the meaning of the song till now, even if I already have got the alexiou- galani LP for at least 15 years.
First of all the lyrics are not Greek, they are made of a Greek dialect in South Italy called "Grecanika".
After a little googling I found a translation to GREEK, which I hope it's a proper one.
Song's talking about immigration.

I wanna get drunk not to think of
this night I want to cry and to laugh
to sing with a lot of anger
to shout to the moon : ... my husband's gone
Our men are going, leaving
If all things go well, we'll see each other in a year
Oh my Jesus, this is our life
they're going to Germany with tears and pain
"Duddy why are you going? Tell me way"
"Cause that's life, (my) poor children
Poor man is working and sweating
to make the bosses thicker with his work"
I'm listening to the band, I hear the music
I'm standing here with you but I also think of the train
I think of the dark mine
which is the place where, working in there people get killed

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"
