Song no 7
This is the second song that Mikis wrote to honor 80th birthday's anniversary of Varnalis.
Title: I ballada toy Antrikou (Andriko's ballad)
Poetry: Kostas Varnalis
Music: Mikis Τheodorakis
Sung by Grigori Βithikotsis
Lp: Politia b' (1964)
It had got a sail full of ornaments
the boat of humpbacked Andreas
Leaned on gunwale
he was watching nice dreams
Kate and Zoe
little Antigoni and Zenovia
Oh what a happy life
You (life) are hurting, a poor heart, violently (meaning old Andreas heart)
On hot noons
they were getting Andrea's boat
to go to open sea
all of them, (such) a crazy company
Bad wintertime came
and crazy company splitted up
And as for you, a hidden cough
get you ill, you old-Andreas

"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to?
You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"
