Ute Freudenberg - Jugendliebe
He spoke of love
Yet they were not even fifteen years old.
Made vows
and he kissed her and caressed her hair.
She spoke of dreams and how she would like to believe him,
Painted pictures/planned a future of life with him
which they then both built.
Jugendliebe bringt den Tag,
wo man beginnt,
alles um sich her ganz anders anzusehn.
Ha, ha Lachen trägt die Zeit,
die unvergessen bleibt,
denn sie ist traumhaft schön.
Young love brings the day,
when one begins,
to see everything around oneself differently
Ha, Ha laughter carries the unforgettable times,
the memory remains,
because it is fantastically beautiful.
He met her once again.
Many years have passed since those days.
Looks in her eyes
and he thinks back: How did it start?
Jugendliebe bringt
den Tag, wo man beginnt,
alles um sich her ganz anders anzusehn.
Ha, ha Lachen trägt die Zeit,
die unvergessen bleibt,
denn sie ist traumhaft schön.
Jugendliebe bringt ...

Hey!
Ute Freudenberg - Jugendliebe
Er sprach von Liebe,

He spoke of love
Yet they were not even fifteen years old.
Swore big words *(made vows?)
>> The latter sounds betterAnd he kissed her and caressed her hair.
She spoke of dreams and how she would like him to believe
>>She wouldn't like him to believe. She would like to trust/believe him!
Painted pictures of life with him
which they then both built.
>> Do you understand what is meant here? I'm not sure whether you use sth like "model the life you want to live" in English.

Ha, ha Lachen trägt die Zeit,
die unvergessen bleibt,
denn sie ist traumhaft schön.
Young love brings the day,
when one begins,
to see everything around oneself differently
Ha, Ha laughter carries away the time,
the memory remains,
>> I'm sure you mean the same thing. The sentences, however, don't seem very connected this way. It's sth like 'laughter carries the unforgettable times'
because it is fantastically beautiful.

Hi Cosmonaut
Thanks for your help.
Re: Swore big words *(made vows?)>> The latter sounds better - I just needed a second opinion if that would be acceptable.
Re: >>She wouldn't like him to believe. She would like to trust/believe him! -
I still get messed up with my word order. What can I say, I'm working on it.
That and my verb tenses are what I need to really work on the most.
Re: Painted pictures of life with him which they then both built.
>> Do you understand what is meant here? I'm not sure whether you use sth like "model the life you want to live" in English. - I believe I understand - she is saying they talked about what their life together would be like and made plans for their future together. Although from what I gather it didn't seem to have worked out. Because it sound like they were apart from each other before they met again. Perhaps not, it doesn't really matter anyway.
Re: Ha, Ha laughter carries away the time,
the memory remains,
>> I'm sure you mean the same thing. The sentences, however, don't seem very connected this way. It's sth like 'laughter carries the unforgettable times' - I believe I'm picking up what you're laying down - let me see if I have it straight now, you are saying "the laughter from those happy times is what helps you remember the times because you were so happy then". I originally was thinking more like "Time flys when you're having fun" Thanks for your insight.
Re: Many years have passed since those days. - Purely a typing error. that is the word I intended.Last edited by Macbard; 06-26-2009 at 11:26 AM. Reason: fixing a thought
