hi -- could you please translate this song?

    Tou Thanatou Paringila
    - performed by Nikos Xylouris (also spelled Ksilouris, or Νίκος Ξυλούρης)
    - lyrics by Γιάννης Κακουλίδης
    - composed by Χριστόδουλος Χάλαρης

the lyrics can be found at:

Also, any commentary would be much appreciated -- how (if at all) did this song relate to the resistance to the Greek Junta in the early 1970's?

I too have been trying to find information about the influence of his songs and the end of the Junta .I suspect that he was more of a thorn in the side of the Junta- many people loved him and his sentiments but the generals were unable to control this.
I notice your entry was in 2009 , have you discovered anything in the intervening years.
Have you been able to get decent translations for his words? Now I'm retired I think I'll have to get a greek dictionary and work my way through them.
I also wonder if he is any consolation to the Greek people in the current sad situation.I am saddend to see them apparently on their knees but I'm sure the Cretan spirit could help them again- for a few moments at least!
