    Αλεξίου Χάρις - Μια καλημέρα

Can anybody please translate for me the song "Mia Kalimera" van Haris Alexiou?
I can not find it on the internet and i think it's a very wellknown song.
    Thank you in advance!

You will never find that life for which you are looking.
When the gods created man they allotted to him death,
but life they retained in their own keeping"

    Mia Kalimera
    A goodmorning

    Στίχοι: Δημήτρης Χριστοδούλου
    Μουσική: Μάνος Λοΐζος
    Πρώτη εκτέλεση: Χαρούλα Αλεξίου

    Στο μονοπάτι σαν θα βγεις,
When you find your way to the path
    Μιας ανοιξιάτικης αυγής,
    of a dawn of spring
Να μη ξεχάσεις να της πεις
    don't forget to tell life
    Μια καλημέρα της ζωής
    a goodmorning

    Μια καλημέρα είν' αυτή
    It's just a goodmorning
Πες τη κι ας πέσει χάμω
Say it and may it fall down
Πες τη κι ας πέσει χάμω
say it and may it fall down
    Παλάτια χτίζουν οι θεοί
    Gods build palaces
    κι εμείς πάνω στην άμμο
    and us, on the sand
    κι εμείς πάνω στην άμμο
    and us, on the sand

    Με τα χαράματα σαν βγεις
When you walk out, during daybreak
    Από την πόρτα της ζωής
    through the door of life
    Μια καλημέρα να της πεις
    Say a goodmorning to life
Κι ας είσαι μόνος μες στη γη
and may you be all alone on the earth

    Μια καλημέρα είν' αυτή ...
    It's just a goodmorning...

    I trully recommend boubou's translation.
It's much more accurate than the one i provided from stixoi.info!

Nice job boubou (once again )

    Amethystos,
first of all, I'd like to thank you in public for your significant work here in ATL.
Your posts, are always complete, providing the corresponding song (when one exists), links to the albums, lyrics, and even history!
I really appreciate this very much.

Second, I'd like to thank you for your kind words.
I'm doing my best, in order to get to this point, like you said, try to make people comprehend the deeper meaning of each phrase.

Κι εγώ χαίρομαι με περισσότερες της μιας μεταφράσεις, επειδή εν τέλει το νόημα αποδίδεται καλύτερα

    Default One more question

Can you explain the meaning of:

Πες τη κι ας πέσει χάμω
say it and may it fall down /on the ground

WHAT and WHY should it fall on the ground?

"Πες τη κι ας πέσει χάμω"= say good morning even if noone concerns about it (or evaluates the action).
So letting a "good morning" throw down means that noone cares to "accept" a "good morning". (Think of the movements people do when they see something falling )

Same thing happens with the phrase:
Kάνε το καλό και ρίξτο στο γυαλό (kane to kalo kai rixto sto gialo)= Do the right thing and throw it to the sea.....

Meaning do the right thing and then forget about it and the good results it may cause!= Don't care about reward when doing the right thing

    Hope I helped

    Default That explains a lot!

Thank you for your exlanation. I now understand what it means.
"Say goodmorning even if nobody listens" or something like that.
Even if your words fall on the ground...

Just do what you think is right!

Now I can sing it knowing what I'm singing.
    Thanks again!
