Talking Julia Butros - Ya 2ossass

Hello!! Can somebody check and correct this please??

    Thanks a lot in advance

    يا قصص عم تكتب أسامينـــا
    Ya 2o9a9 3am tektub asaameena
Oh forelocks! You’re writing our names

    ع زمان الماضي وتمحينــــــا
    3 zamaan el maadhi w tam7eena
(And you’re writing) about past times and our disappearance

    جينا نحنا وغنانينـــــــــــــــا
    Jeena na7na we ghnaaneena
    We arrived and sang

    والرقص يضوي ليالينـــــــــا
    Wer-ra29 yedhouwe layaleena
    and dancing illuminated our nights

    ليالينا .. ليالينا
    Layaleena…layaleena
    Our nights…our nights

    يا قصص من بالك شيلينـــــا
    Ya 2o9a9 men baalek sheeleena
    Oh forelocks! Forget about us

    وبقلب الحاضر خلينــــــــــــا
    W be2alb el7aadher khaleena
And with your heart bring us to the present

    شو بدك بزمان الماضـــــــي
    Shou badek bezamaan el maadhi
What do you want with the past?

    إحنا ما خلقنا لماضينـــــــــــا
    E7na ma khala2na lemaadheena
    We didn’t invent our past

    ليالينا .. ليالينا
    Layaleena…layaleena
    Our nights…our nights

    يا زمن بالقصص المنسيــــة
    Ya zamaan bel 2o9a9 elmanseeya
    Oh times of forgotten forelocks

    أو بالأحلام الورديــــــــــــــة
    Aw bel a7laam elwardeeya
    Or of rosy dreams

    لا تتركنا أسرى امبــــــــارح
    La tatrekna asra embaare7
Don’t let us remember the yesterday

    ولا ننطر بكرة ليليـــــــــــــة
    Wala nan6er bokra leyleeya
And let’s not expect for tomorrow’s night

    ليالينا .. ليالينا
    Layaleena…layaleena
    Our nights…our nights

Thank you very much for all your corrections, comments & your time Incriptedtruth I truly appreciate it.

Yes, I knew قِصَة (qi9a, with kasra) means "story", but since here it's pronounced as 2o9a (with damma) I looked it up and found in my dictionary it means "forelock"!! So I presumed Julia may be singing to a man with nice cute curls dangling on his forehead LOL (I'm considering chucking out my dictionary after this )

    Concerning this:

In this case "past" is a noun, so it needs the article. If it was an adjective then it may be left out under certain circumstances:

-In the past (noun) there were no mobile phones.

-In past times (adjective [past]+ noun [times]) mobile phones were extremely expensive and quite big and heavy.

    No problem , you're welcome
yea i understand how puffeling the pronounciation gets sometimes me myself suffer alot from that

about The past, i prefered omitting (The) for rhythmatic purpose, it s heavey on the ear, we can say( what do you want from our past)or what do you want from past time which is the main subject in the poem, but now you got me suspecious about it ,ill double check

    thank you for commenting tho

Hehehe...my Arabic is basic and poor, still in nappies ; but you can trust me in English -well, that is concerning good grammar, although in terms of adapting and making something sound nice and singable, then I'm afraid I'm useless

    Just a little note:
قلب does mean heart... but in dialect it's used as inside...
    so I'd say
    بقلب الخزانة
    بقلب الكتاب
    It means inside/ in

exactly, so goes for the meaning ( in the middle of, in the center of)
as the common expression, in the middle of the event=بقلب الحدث
    thanks oriee

Hey Oriee! Nice to see u here 2

Yes, thanks for the remark. In English "heart" can also be used in that way, as Louie pointed out: it's possible to say that someone/something is at the heart of an event/incident/controversy, etc. meaning it is right in the middle/centre of it.
