To Kastro Tis Astropalias... arghhhhhh help

Ok I have already the Greek lyrics for this song, but they are not the same exact words as Eleni sings in this YouTube clip..and I really prefer her version to the others that I have heard.

Now my ability in the Greek language is not that good that I can turn all of the sounds I hear her sing into words, so I am really asking a person who's first language is Greek, and who knows this Aegean dialect well, to provide me with the lyrics as Eleni Tsaligopoulou sings them.

Once I have the Greek words I should be able to translate the song, but if it is not too much more to do, I would appreciate your version of the translation as a guide for me to work with.

Well you're right. This song has been sung with quite a few different lyrics.
But the one that is being heard in the link you provided, has no dialect.
The only word that sounded strange to me is the main word of the song... "Τούρνα"!

It's pretty strange that there's no reference about it in my dictionary but
I've founded that there are two uses of it:

The most .... common , seems to be the name of a ... freshwater fish!
In english it's called pike (Infos about pike -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_pike)

Secondly it's tha name of a tiny (probably uninhabitant) island between Paros and Antiparos.

So I really can't imagine the meaning of "Τούρνα" in the song

έμορφα = εύμορφα comes from ευ (good) + μορφή (appearance) = όμορφα (beautifull)
μελιά the ones that have the brown colour of honey

I was going over your transcription and noticed your use of native English spellings. Therefore, I am guessing, you are English ?

In that case I also notice your render the exclamatory chorus word as
Ainte? However I hear her sing this word 'Eidthe' which is a bad way to say - literally - "I saw( it )", and it does fit better into the story of this song. Now I am not trying to change what many others may have understood by 'that' sound, rather pointing out that there may be another interpretation.

Next "Turna". Yes indeed you are correct, however - and here I return you back to my original note about dialect - I have heard this sound used about Greek/Turkish folk music, and assumed its meaning - in the Aegean - to be just that and not much else, but also to note AFAIK there are no fresh water fish in Astropalia; the w 'pike' is not a good candidate.

And last the name of the Island. I am not going to work this over as it has been many a time, but have to ask, what else besides "Astro" - star - and "Palia" - adj old - could these sounds be?

2) I also wrote in bold freshwater cause it seemed impossible to me also!
3) The origin of the specific song is placed in south west Minor Asia

4) Finally as I've already mentioned, I haven't found the meaning of Τούρνα so

There can be different meanings according to a place's historic data.
(But always άστρο will mean star and παλιά will mean old)

Small, trivial changes have portrayed her as "Astoopalia", "Astropalia", and "Stipalia".

Thanks for the pictures which show the Castle ( To Kastro ) of Astupalias. That might help a student connect the song with the actual place - as in 'The Castle of Astupalias'...

Sometimes I find words coming from catalan (don´t forget the History) living in greek language.
I also study Greek, and find several Turkish words that turn me crazy!
