Greg Salwen – Letras de For John Christenson

Outside the snow covers the ground
And there’s no traces left of what we said all those years ago
Let alone lack of footprints in the snow
It’s flat as these past weeks have been ever since you’ve grown
I guess I’m not making tracks at all
But I’ve been sitting looking at the winter wishing spring would come

So I don’t have to force myself to go outside and prove
To live is easy and to live happy is just as close to you
The children are young enough to know there’s nothing else to lose
Except a heart that just needs love and air, and that will do
But it gets fogged up as age sets in and impatience breeds
Craved is the soul who doesn’t know that time is self-conceived
The more you make of it the longer life appears to be
Religion gives you what you want but love gives you what you need

As soon as April comes around
I’m begging something somewhere out there to help July come home
Soon kids are walking without clothes
Maybe it’s the rising sun, or the horizon down the road
Come day they’ve missed out on the moon
Through crescent, gibbous, half, and full they only dread the new

Keeping the date logged in a notebook for all to read
It gives reason to look away; even keep our fingers busy
The children are young enough to know that all spaces need not be filled
Silence might surprise you, and forced smiles just make you ill
So some who felt it went and took it to the other extreme
Tearing away at what is sacred for the sake of being
A little more adventurous or dangerously naive
Religion gives you what you want but love gives you what you need

Religion gives you what you want but love gives you what you need
