No, I can't agree with it. It may be a synonym but not always.

When he speaks about his parents he always says : Io voglio molto bene ai miei parenti...So you can use this expression to talk about your parents or relatives..

Italian translators said that to me (it's what they do for living). Apart form that I had an Italian boyfriend and he used to say ti voglio bene many times. I thought that it meant something like I like you, so I wasn't paying attention sometimes and he was getting angry (until he explained that to me). Maybe in the south it is used like this. Soemtimes there are these kind of differences between norht and south

The differences between North and South of Italy are only into dialects and accents: the language is the same in the whole Italian territory, so - as Alyson was saying - "ti voglio bene" is something you say to a friend or to a relative, and "I love you" to the one you're in love with.

yes i agree with you... we say ti voglio bene also when we are at the beginning of a relationship... the language is the same for all the country but there are some words that some region use and some not at all...anyway there is a different: the north people use more often the " passato prossimo" while the south people use the " passato remoto". i'm from liguria...north italy!i live in a city near portofino...

Ho una domanda: ho sentito parlare delle differenze tra il nord e il sud d'Italia (oltre alle differenze che tutti sappiamo dalla storia), particolarmente in cio che riguarda l'atteggiamento delle persone. Si dice che quelli del nord siano molto arroganti e che tratino male gli abitanti del sud, fino al punto in cui quest'ultimi si sentono come se fossero in un altro paese quando vanno nel nord. E vero?
Voglio visitare Milano questa primavera e mi si e detto che non trovero gli stessi italiani accoglienti che ho trovato a Roma.

Certo, ci sono delle differenze, ma credo derivino dalla diversa storia che il nord e il sud hanno avuto.

Forse come cultura la Romania è più vicina al Sud Italia, ma questo non significa che ti troverai male. Goditi la tua vacanza in tranquillità: quando tornerai a Bucarest ci racconterai com'è andata e ci dirai tu se preferisci Roma o Milano.

I agree with you Alyson.
Only one thing: the "passato remoto" is used in the whole south but not in Sardinia Island. Here we use the "passato prossimo" just like in the North.
Some people say that Sardinia Island is a piece of Northen Italy in the South! And someone else say that if Lega Nord would divide Italy into two parts, Sicily would go to Southern Italy and Sardinia to the Northen one.
I only hope Italy will always be ONE AND UNDIVISIBLE... even because it has been reunited by the Sardinian Kingdom in 1860!

Grazie per le informazioni Superstar, adesso sono piu tranquilla avendo il parere di qualcuno che vive in Italia e che sa come vanno veramente le cose.
E sapevo della Lega Nord, ma comunque non mi sembra coretto che diventi uno stato indipendente, ma credo che gli interessi siano molti ed importantissimi.
In cio che riguarda la Sardegna, sicuramente la visitero un giorno...ma prima ci sono le CinqueTerre che vorrei tanto vedere.
Se potessi, farei ogni giorno un viaggio in una citta d'Italia
