I love this song, I didn´t know that Fairouz was singing it, too.

"Lama Bada yatathanna" is a very old and famous song from the Andalusian period (the Arab rule in Spain, aka Moorish Spain). That kind of song, known as Muwashah, was developed in that era. There is a wealth of information on the web about Andalusian music and its influence.
The song is typical 'ghazel' poetry which is romantic poetry that recounts the beauties of the beloved one. "When she starts to move, amen, her beauty fascinates us. The movements are like a tree branch leaning".

This is called "Lama Bada - Shadows of the Alhambra" on Dalia Carella's CD Shuvani and the same song, minus any lyrics, is identified on one of Delilah's DVDs as "Mwah Sha"

Thank you Tahira . The translation above will help me to understand the arabic lyrics but they are not the translation of Fairouz's version. Hope someone else can help us.

Obs : The version above was sung by Fairouz in Damascus festival 1960

Shoukran jazilan ya raysa. My parents are palestinians so I speak and write arabic a little bit ( I'm still learning). I've tried to translate those lyrics but my translation doesn't make sense , I guess my arabic is not good enough yet for this kind of lyrics.

here my first pause coz i'm not used to here جادك or جاد with ك added may be جاءك is more commonly for me

i paused here coz the poet didn't add عليه as preposition... so it confused me a little bit

(I paused as well a lot infront of 7ebbi coz nowadays I’m used to hear them say 7obbi instead)

i've finished it with so many pauses eventually were solved ... if you have any question you may ask

if you noticed that the translatoin says uses male (once he noded his head, and other translation) or it's even in arabic يتثنى وليس تتثنى
but it was ment a female some times poets use male instead of female
ofcourse you can't imagine male fondling... that will look gross
even it's sung by Fairouz as she's female... the poet was written by man.. i guess...

An Egyptian friend of mine is translating the Arabic for me. I will post what he comes up with as soon as he gets it to me. The transliteration doesn't quite work for me. I've been using it as a start and making notes based on what he is teaching me. It really does sound close to the Fairouz version, but there are a lot of breath marks where a sound is breathed but not voiced in what George is teaching me. I will post my notes here once he's satisfied I'm getting the sound of the language correct.

I've been singing this song for many years, but still don't have all the sounds right. I would appreciate any history on the song (both lyrics and melody) that anyone can provide. When I get a chance, I'll do some research on it and post it here. It's really important for me to get this right. As far as I can tell, I'm the only singer in Indiana publicly performing this song.
