Maybe thats what you mean by there not being a ya? If I put a ya after the 3ain though (like you suggest) it would be عيش which is also a present. 3isht is the past tense, just remember arabic uses the same 'roots' for different words.

Anyway, you already told me 3aish is (with the ya) is part of the present and without it is the past... sorry, I just have problems with some roots
