[QUOTE=RoCk-StAr;265912]it's the same song as Tamer's except for "metdaye2' became "Batdaye2", they translate the same
w ro7y kanet feek / and my soul was in you

thank u!! so that song is not originally asalas or tamer re did it? -

lol, don't worry, you can always trust me since I'm Egyptian and this is Egyptian dialect (not that I don't speak Khaliji & Lebanese fluently
), and your songs are on my playlist, don't worry, also that French request was made before yours, check the previous page.
Hmm... Tamer recorded it, didn't like it, Asala took it and released it, then later Tamer's found its way over the internet, and that actually happens a lot in the Arab world since the musical scene became very crowded and competitive, but that's another story.
Paul my Romanian friend, I haven't forgot about you, I'll finish your requests tomorrow
Sania, ne t'inquiètes pas, je la traduirai après finir les autre, je ne t'oublierai pas.خليك معايا يا حبيبي مهما كان

Some often used arabic words...
Now I remember, I have some words very often used in these arabic songs, that I don't understandand... one of them is donya... What means "donya" in arabic? But hob/7ob, wa7dak, la7za, tany, mafeesh (there is not?), feesh (there is ?), ajmal (more beautiful, like ajmal/jameel, akbar/kbeer, aktar/kteer ???) kedda / keda (is the same thing?)...
About "keda" I read some explications about it, but I'm not clear at all...
Someone please clarify me...
And please also mention the areas where these words are used, or the dialect...Last edited by PaulGeorge; 03-21-2007 at 02:18 AM.

Hi, PaulGeorge:
"hob" / "7ob" - The 7 is H in arabic (this is what i know)
-
donya means world
there is a whole debate on it in the previous pages lol ...7ob means love, mafish a saudi friend of mine told me means 'none', aktar i have as 'most' .. oh and the 7 stands for the hard h ....
and rock star.. i have my ticket to cairo, ill be there between from apr.11 landing at midnight lol and am leavin 2.30 am on the 16th.. shall i bring my hdd so you just copy the metal foldersLast edited by Angelus; 03-21-2007 at 03:10 AM.

Yes, I saw...
Angelus, Miha, thanks, indeed 7 is H, is the Chat Alphabet Arabic chat alphabet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia about a debate is already written...

lol Angi, as i said before, I am not a teacher, I'm not able to teach.
But if you come here you'll find good places to teach, especially that the Arabic language is now only regulated here in Egypt, and wow, you're aiming at the midterms, you're coming right around when my midterms start.
Paul
donya --> World (Standard Arabic, used everywhere and even borrowed in Turkish)
7ob, 3esh2, hawa --> love (all Standard Arabic, used everywhere, and 3esh2 is borrowed in Turkish)
wa7dak --> you alone (Standard Arabic, used everywhere)
la7za --> a moment (Egyptian, pronounced otherwise as "la7ze", derived from "La7tha" th like in the)
tany --> again (Used everywhere, derived from "Thanyatan" th like in thing)
mafeesh --> there is not, none, over (Egyptian, pronounced as "mafee" in Lebanese and Khaliji, also any negative word that end with "sh" is Egyptian)
feeh --> there is (Standard Arabic, used everywhere)
ajmal --> the most beautiful (but in Egyptian we don't have the sound "J", we say it agmal)
jameel --> beautiful (Standard Arabic, used everywhere except Egypt since we pronounce it "gameel")
akbar --> the biggest (Standard Arabic and used everywhere unchanged)
kbeer --> big (Egyptian, slightly difference otherwise, pronounced as "ekbeer", but it's derived from "Kabeer")
aktar --> the most (used everywhere, derived from "Akthar" th like in thing)
kteer --> a lot, many, much (used everywhere, it's derived from the Arabic word "katheer" th link in thing)
kedda / keda --> like that (ex: e3mel keda = do like that) the word is purely Egyptian but sometimes used outside
In Egyptian we don't pronounce either the "th from the" or "th from thing", the 1s is pronounced as "Z" and the 2nd is pronounced as "S"
We don't pronounce the "J", we say "G" instead, the only dialect of Arabic that does that, the Arabic language actually has no sound for "G"
We don't pronounce the "Q" ق, we pronounce it as "2" ء, and we actually have a joke about that situation, but some words with "Q" are still pronounced as they are, like "Al-Qahira" القاهرة wich is Cairo in Arabicخليك معايا يا حبيبي مهما كان
خليك معايا يا حلم عمري اللي في خيالي من زمان -
Good explications...
Wow, thank you a thousand times....
7ob - I should realise, 7abiby, 7obak :P
tany - Oul tany keda, I found it like "say that again"
ajmal - like I supposed, I also knew that egyptians pronounce jeem as "g"
- also this transformation for adj. [akbar, ekbeer]
q - I thought so, when I saw in some places "heart" albi, and in others "qalbi"... -
Sure, no problem.
Btw, here's a link to the original "Alf Leila W Leila" by Um Kulthoum
