This is one of the most memorable collaborations between el-Sitt Oum Kalthoum and maestro Riad al-Sunbati...it captures the essence of classical Egyptian tunes similar to al-Nil...when Oum Kalthoum was lying on her deathbed in 1975, it was said that she wanted to hear this song as she succumbed...Shams el-Asil was a fitting song, for Oum Kalthoum had always been labelled as el-Asil (the Authentic) for her penchant for pure classical maqam-based music to go with her songs, rather than Western melodies...the lyrics are pretty deep, and once again, I need someone to help me translate this song into English...thanks a lot!
