    Smile Someone knows these songs?

    Hi,
I have few songs in greek registered by my friend:
    - Ine megalos
    - Una pigie
    - Api zoi mu
    - Erimos dromos
    - Tha se ksanavro
(but I'm not sure these are the titles).
Someone could tell me who sings it, and give me the lyrics and translation?

    Thanks

    You're welcome

The first song by Mikis Theodorakis is called 'O kaimos'

    Cool Erimos dromos

I've finally managed to identify this song, I have it somewhere but haven't managed to find it yet !

It is called Ο ξενύχτης ( O Ksenuxtis - one who stays up all night) and according to 'stixoi.info' was originally sung by Dimitris Mitropanos.

I can't help you with Tha se ksanavro - I don't know the song

    Let's put them in order.

    - "Pou na pige tosi agapi" by Antonis Remos

    - "Ti imouna gia senane" by Antonis Remos

    - "O ksenihtis" by Dimitris Mitropanos

    Kaimos
    Grigoris Bithikotsis

    Ine megalos o gialos

    Potami mesa mou pikro
    To ema tis pligis sou
Ki apo to ema pio pikro

    Dolore

    Grande e' la spiaggia
    lunga e' l'onda
    e' grande il dolore
    e amara e' la trasgressione

Amaro dentro di me il fiume
    il sangue della tua ferita
    e piu' amaro del sangue
    il tuo bacio sulla bocca

Non sai cosa e' il gelo
    raggi senza luna
    non sapere in quale momento
    ti prende il dolore

Amaro dentro di me il fiume
    il sangue della tua ferita
    e piu' amaro del sangue
    il tuo bacio sulla bocca

    Smile My translation for you

O Ksenixtis – The night owl (this is the only description in English I could think of)

    Erimos dromos horis fengari
    Deserted road without the moon

    Clomo thlimeno to palikari
    Pale sad young man

    Yiati vadizei kai psithirizei
Why does he walk and whisper

    yiati argoklaiei yiati yiati
Why is he quietly crying.. why, why

Kleisan I portes tis kardias svisan yi afton ta astra
Closed are the doors of the heart, therefore the stars went out

yi afto ksenixtis perpata stou stenagmou ta kastra
Because of this the night owl walked in the sighing fortresses

ine sa filo sto voria dentri horis klonaria
He is like a leaf in the (north) wind, a tree without branches

O erotas poli sklira xtipaei ta palikaria
A very hard passion attacks the young men

    Enas ksenixtis mes’ sto skotadi
A night owl in the darkness

Varis kai monos avto to vradi
    Distant and alone this evening

    Ti ton pikrainei ti perimenei
What grieves him what is he waiting for

    Yiati stenazei yiati yiati
    Why is he sighing..why, why

I hope that is OK, any corrections are welcomed !

γι αυτόν means for him, so it should be "Closed are the doors of the heart, for him the stars went out"

έρωτας, love itself is not hard here, so it should be "Love attacks the young men with cruelty"

Βαρύς means heavy, so it should be "Heavy and alone this evening"

But other than that well done Have you learnt Greek by yourself or have you enrolled in some course?

    @Steena: Thank you!

Thanks for your corrections Zvezda, I did struggle in a few places but you are all helping me to learn

I first started to learn Greek by myself with the 'BBC Greek Language and People' book, then did a year (one night a week) at evening classes. That was several years ago and I don't have time to study now. Also I don't have anywhere here in the UK to use my Greek, only on holiday for couple of weeks a year, so it's difficult for me to remember what I have learned. Listening to Greek music keeps the language in my mind and I am always thrilled when I suddenly hear and understand another word or two in a song I 've been listening to for years

Trying to translate songs on here is good practise for me, and thanks to you all for your help, I'm sure to make more embarrassing errors any time soon!
