La canzone è stata composta da Pierangelo Sequeri per la "Traditio Symboli" del 1977.Nel sabato in cui si ricorda la consegna del Credo (Symbolum) ai catecumeni (il sabato prima della domenica delle Palme) che ha significato liturgico nel rito ambrosiano veniva tenuta una veglia di preghiera nel Duomo di Milano da parte dell'Azione Cattolica. Le informazioni derivano da un'intervista allo stesso don Sequeri pubblicata da Avvenire nel 2007 e nella quale si considerava il canto come il più eseguito durante la Messa in Italia
