    Hola Lalli !

Thanks for the corrections. So habana is Havana ...I wasn't sure ...maybe if the h were capitalized I've known that .....

And one more question : te quiero means I want you , right ? But can it be translated as I love you ? If so when do you use te quiero and when te amo ?
    Gracias.

    hyacinthee17 don't mention it

    Hola Crisi

Actually, I normally translate "te quiero" as "I love you", because as far as I know, "I want you" has a sexual connotation, whereas "te quiero" doesn't.

The difference between "querer" y "amar" is mainly the degree and depth of love. "Querer" can be used for just about anything and anyone, but when you use "amar", boy! that's serious!

In brief, "amar" is used generally for your partner (ie husband, boyfriend, etc.), your siblings, your parents, your children and your relatives. And it's not normally used for friends (at least not in Mexico), as it can be misinterpreted and ppl may think your friend is your lover or that you're a lesbian if they hear you say "amo a fulanito(a)"

Hey Crisa!... This song is for you:

    nunca sufrir y nunca sufrir

olvidar y nunca llorar y nunca llorar

y nunca llorar y nunca llorar
    el querer pronto puede acabar,
el amor no conoce el final,
    es que todos sabemos querer
    pero pocos sabemos amar.

I understand now. Then it also can be translated as : I care for you .... (for a friend ).

The song is very nice, the lyrics are beautiful thank you . I understood what's the difference .

    Yes

And if you want to emphasize one of your friends is very beloved and close to you, you can say "Lo(a) quiero mucho; es un(a) amigo(a) muy especial/ querido(a) / entrañable; lo(a) quiero como a un(a) hermano(a).

Por último, one phrase that helps illustrate the difference between "amar" & "querer" and which you may come across in songs or films: "A ella la quiero, pero a ti te amo." (Said to a girl by a bloke who's cheating on her )
