I love listening to Danilo Sacco singing this, and I think I understand the majority of the lyrics, but I am having trouble with the first two lines, especially "porta" and how it is being used. I am unable to make sense of them. I would appreciate a translation of the entire song, though. Thank you.

I'm not sure, but I think that basically the phrase means that the biplane is decorated with old emblems and, in a figurative way, valour.

Grazie! That is wonderful. The lyrics are even more beautiful than my translation was making them. I appreciate it so much, and 'wears' is absolutely the right word and makes so much more sense.

I am a beginner in Italian, and this is how I am learning...by translating the songs. I can combine the emotion expressed in the music with the lyrics and usually figure it out (plus a good dictionary).
